Default Toyota Confirms Five Major Launches Coming Next Year

Toyota’s senior VP of automotive operations, Bob Carter, delivered a speech today at the Barclays Capital global automotive conference in which he revealed the plan for “five major [vehicle] launches” next year.

Speaking about the new vehicles, he also commented on the characteristics they would have, saying “what you’ll see from us is more emotional designs and styling that… quite frankly… we really haven’t offered before.”

Toyota is known for building some blandly styled cars, but it looks like what we are going to see in the new year is some exciting new design, much like what happened to the new Avalon.

Along with the five mystery vehicles, Carter also discussed the LF-LC concept, saying “it’s just a concept now, but it’s has received a fantastic reception from the public, so stay tuned.” While this isn’t a confirmation of production, it is a strong hint that the LF-CC will be coming to market as a production vehicle.

since it is only "5", i would say 5th is new model, not just powertrain... otherwise there will be Rav4 hybrid as well.

I also hate the BS "Toyota is known for building blandly styled cars". Yeah, cause Chevrolet, Honda, Hyundai, Ford, and Kia just oooze "excitment", right?

I doubt it's Toyota/Lexus together. I think the 5 major launches will be only Toyota, and Lexus will have more. I could be wrong though.

Keep in mind the year is not over yet, and Toyota should have at least one or two more major launches this year.

I'm hoping/expecting Toyota to reveal the new Rav4 at the LA autoshow this year.

As for next year, my guesses are:

(if this includes Lexus models)

1.) Corolla
2.) Highlander
3.) new GS variant, possible GS coupe or new Lexus coupe, new CT variant or refreshed GX
4.) 3IS
5.) new Tundra

if this does not include Lexus:

1.) Corolla
2.) Highlander
3.) Tundra
4.) new matrix or matrix replacement
5.) refreshed Sienna

I think at the very least, 3IS, Corolla, and Highlander are guaranteed to be shown next year. The rest we can speculate on. We don't know for sure yet if the Rav4 will be unveiled this year or next year.

I agree, typical paid-for biased BS.

rav4 is going to be shown in next 2 weeks (is that LA?)... but it starts selling next year, thats probably what they are thinking here. Corolla will start sales later in 2013.

well, the list is in some PR piece released in last 7-10 days... i just forgot what exactly is it :-)

The Sienna and 4Runner need an interior refresh badly.

You mean in terms of quality or styling? Quality-wise they will get it in due time.

Styling-wise I like both interiors; I think styling suits both vehicles very well.

So they're showing the Rav4 this year, but releasing it next year? Doesn't make much sense lol. Which year then does it count for? Keep in mind this year Toyota said there would be 19 new or refreshed Toyota/Lexus models. I don't think we have reached the 19 models yet.

they are showing it in December, do you expect them to be at dealers few days later? :-))))))
I think it is hard to remember sometimes that it is already 15th of November.

In any case, this is certainly confirmed.
