Best look at BMW's forthcoming 1 Series GT

A new era of front-wheel-drive BMW vehicles, riding on a platform that is to be shared with Mini and dubbed with the 1 Series GT moniker, is out in the world. Following closely the form set by the BMW Concept Active Tourer that we snapped in Paris this year.

The new small BMW has a revised roofline and A-pillar shape compared with the prototype vehicle we've seen testing in the past; not too surprising a revision as the vehicle transitions to something closer to its production form. These images also mark the first time that our spies in the field have observed twin exhaust pipes on the car, which may indicate that this is a higher-performance version of the 1 GT.

Expectation is that the powertrain lineup for this car, which shares underpinnings with the next-generation of Mini, too, will be quite varied. Three- and four-cylinder engines are expected, most likely in 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter forms, along with a hybrid powertrain, too. Expect to see the car in both front-wheel and all-wheel-drive flavors sometime after its debut by the summer of 2013.

Kind of hard to tell what the rear end of that car looks like with the camo on, but I was in Rio a few months back and they have a 4 door hatchback 1 series there. I wonder if this is the same car.

not the same car, GT's seem slightly raised like A4/A4 Avant/A4 Allroad kind of deal
