If that's the case, I'm even less surprised. Most lithium batteries become very dangerous when thermal runaway occurs (see above). Ever use the latest cordless power drill? Even they can generate a decent amount of heat when running hard. If I was Acura, I would increase cooling capacity to handle even the most extreme conditions (Mars? ). Remember, it takes years to build a reputation, but only seconds to destroy it.

Really funny to think its 2014 and Acura never made a car with as much power as the 1993 320hp Toyota Supra it's chasing

The traditional Honda paint is already crappy, now this zirconium e-coat is more environmentally friendly with fewer coats = even more crappier looking

Default Acura NSX to be priced competitively with the Audi R8

Could spawn a high-performance variant

We haven't heard much about the Acura NSX since a prototype burst into flames at the Nürburgring but the model's head of development has revealed some new details about the upcoming sports car.

Speaking to What Car, Ted Klaus said the NSX will "... have to achieve the type of acceleration that the customer is achieving with the Ferrari. More importantly we have to achieve this every day and also at the Nürburgring."
Klaus also confirmed the model will be priced competitively with the Audi R8. He declined to say which version of the R8 but it starts at $115,900 in the United States.

The engineer went on to say the company hopes to match the sales of the R8 but noted "We will not seek to meet demand – there is value in making the product rare." He also hinted we can expect additional variants including a roadster and a high-performance model.

I sort of figured this would be a $120Kish car. LF-LC (SC) should also reach these sort of numbers but in a more GT package.

Good, bring them!

Would be nice if it starts under 100K, but well if that keep them rare. I'm tempted to get 2nd model year. Supra is nowhere near horizon, I have no faith in waiting.

The new NSX is gonna be high performance so for the sake of setting expectations, let's use the R8 V10 mid $150s as the reference starting price.

I think the folks at Acura are having to assess context regarding the rapidly evolving HP battles amongst super car makers. The new NSX will launch when the turbolicious version of the now normally aspirated but aspirational 458 is available(i.e. By being late, now Acura needs more power for the car).

I also see them recognizing the cert is a big deal. To date the Acura dumb dumb pops haven't even shown the car with even a Targa roof. Ferrari and McLaren have hard top verts and Acura needs to address this early (and not in a de-tuned car).

There's no way it can be under $100k since the last 2005 model was going for $90k already, with old tech (at the time).

Let's bring it already
