Default Lexus sales in UK up 15%, Hybrids 82%

Today Sophie Gannon from Lexus UK had the kindness of sharing very detailed sales figures for Toyota’s luxury division so I thought it would be worth a quick update on BSCB. You can check out the general UK September 2012 update here. Overall, Lexus is up 15% over the first 9 months of 2012 in the UK with 7,071 units sold over the period vs. 6,173 at the same time last year. Interestingly, most of this growth can be attributed to the brand’s hybrid cars, with the hybrid share of Lexus UK sales going from 74% after 9 months in 2011 to 82% this year.
The CT200h remains the brand’s best-seller in the country with 3,929 sales year-to-date (+35%) and more than half of Lexus sales, but the most impressive gain is delivered by the GS-Series helped by the new generation with sales up 596% over 9 months to 536 units, including 304 hybrids (+295%). This confirms news published last July about the success of the GS-Series in Europe and in particular of the GS450h in the UK…

It’s also worthwhile noting that the RX and LS models are sold exclusively as hybrids in the UK with stable sales for the former at 1,557 units year-to-date and just 15 sales for the latter, 7 of which registered in September (+40%). Finally, the only Lexus model not to feature a hybrid version here is the IS-Series, due to be replaced in 2014 and with sales understandably down 13% in September at 289 units and down 36% year-to-date at 1,034.

Expect Lexus sales to jump when IS300h and GS300h are introduced... Right now, IS is very old, and GS250 is not good enough while GS450h is very, very expensive car.

The CT's success in Europe is no surprise, but the GS' success definitely is (at least to me). Glad Lexus is doing better and I hope they'll continue this upward trend in the UK.

i am surprised by both figures... GS numbers are not big, but they are not bad either... most of it is GS450h which is very expensive in Europe.

So I think sales will go up once new IS300h and GS300h come, substantially. Best selling 5 series is 520d.

What's more surprising is that more GS450h than GS250 were sold. Guess most of the buyers were more interested in the performance aspect than in keeping costs low.

both performance and mpg... plus GS250 is not a good engine for the car... i am surprised than anyone would get it.

GS450h has became available few months later too... my Lexus dealer had GS250 when I was there in May, July but no GS450h yet.

For the LS facelift, the LS460 is back again in the UK lineup (due to customer requests)

heh, yes, here is why they have requests:

The 2013 Lexus LS has reached UK territory and it will be available starting from 71,995 pounds for the LS 460 Luxury model, followed by the LS 460 F Sport at 74,495 pounds and the flagship LS 600h L Premier that costs 99,495 pounds.
So it is $30k reduction in base price :-)

Do you guys think ES should be released in Europe? I'm not sure about the European market, but I don't see why the ESh wouldn't sell loads like the CT and GSh.

Thats great news. I guess they started to learn that the Lexus brand is no joke. The more they sell the more Lexus will convert.

me personally yeah, i have no idea why wouldnt they get ESh. Probably because it would outsell GSh 10x1?

Taxes in Europe are high... I am sure people would buy more ESh than GSh, despite being FWD and made for USA.

Paying $72k for base GS450h is crazy.

I think it's more likely the lower company car tax compared to the comparable BMW or Merc. Same goes for choosing the RX450h over the Range Rover.

well, lower consumption is good... but the fact is that people in Europe dont buy V6 petrols anymore, plus GS250 is not a good car anyway, engine is not well suited to GS, at all.
