Porsche 911 Carrera S nails down 7:37.9 'Ring time

Porsche released a video of its 911 Carrera S lapping the Nürburgring last month, and with a time of 7:37.9, the quintessential sports coupe continues to impress. With Timo Kluck behind the wheel, this Carrera S posted better times around the 'Ring than the 997 911 Turbo and, according to PorscheBoost, it even knocked a full two seconds off the time the Carrera S recorded last year.

The run took place on August 28, but Porsche only published the video this week. After checking recorded lap times posted on Wikipedia, the 911's run was faster than independent tests of the Lexus LFA, Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, Nissan GT-R and Ferrari 458 Italia (which all posted times of 7:38). That's good company if you ask us.

I would like to see the times for all the other cars mentioned driven by Timo Glock. That would be interesting.

The LFA Nürburgring package did 7:14. The standard LFA did 7:38

The 2013 GTR did an unofficial 7:21. These guys need to get their numbers right. Still impressive but not as impressive as they make it out to be

7:21

OLD 7:29 video

The Porsche is fast but no where near the GTR. They must be using numbers from 2008/2009 MY. Even the old official GTR lap time are WAY faster than the Porsche. I am seeing some smoke being blown here

Note Carerra S not Turbo which is the real challenger to the GTR, great time indeed for a Carrera S.

^^ Which ties LFA

That time is super impressive for a 400hp car with RWD. Wow.

Very impressive for a rear-engined six cylinder car. =)

Very impressive for a 400hp 6cylinder especially that it beat the insanely fast 997 turbo but some of the claims of it beating certain cars don't seem to hold up or are debatable depending on what year/times you use. The 911 S is still over a 100K when you add just a few options where the GTR is well under 100K.
