Next Infiniti G37 sedan nearly ready to take on BMW 3 Series

After already seeing a test mule of the new Infiniti G37, dressed up in the current car's clothes, we knew that it was only a matter of time before the prototypes started hitting the roads for testing. And here they are.

Clad in your typical head-to-toe camouflage, the identity of the new-look G is nevertheless apparent from the outset. The same basic proportions of the good-looking current car are in evidence here, but even with the disguising frock, the surfacing on the hood and flanks of this machine seem more complexly curved than before. We can see LED lighting elements, probably turn signals, on the lower front fascia of the 2014 Infiniti, as well as lights on the rear bumper where none exist on the current model.

There are no firm technical details about the new G37 as of yet, though we assume we'll hear more about the range before its expected release date in the second half of 2013.

With the new ATS, IS and G, not to mention current C Class, I think the 3 Series will be in a bit of trouble starting next year. The redesigned model is already suffering a bit and the competition is not wasting any time.

The shape so far looks pretty good. You can tell it is a bit of a bigger car than either the 3 and IS. I think that back seat will be the factor that sways me to the IS or Infiniti.

It's always been a bigger car. 187in current vs 180 (IS) and 177 (E90 3 Series).

Cool! Really looking forward to seeing it. I wonder if it'll be debuting at the Detroit show too?

My next car is either this or the 3IS IS350.

Hoovey, you don't happen to have some awesome inside info on this?

Meh, I'm really getting tired of the jelly bean/ oval design language used by Nissan and Infiniti.

Hope they get this one right too. The G35 coupe was a thing of beauty. The G37.. not so much. Very feminine looking, not to mention the terribly coarse VQ37. What a step backwards. Let's hope this new G get's them two steps forward. It will have to hit the ground running when it gets released otherwise it'll be forgotten quickly again. The 3IS is going to be WOT when it bows at dealers and it won't let up. It's already going to be the most aggressive (at least in F-Sport) design in the segment and if it drives like it's older 4GS brother, lights out.

i am surprised with 3 series not selling that well, based on magazine reports.

However I have been in 3 series, and while it looks great on the outside (and much better than in the pics), they have cut costs left, right, down and above.... everywhere. I couldnt close the doors on 6-7 models I tried, without slamming them really hard.

I bet customers noticed lower quality as well.

True but I am hoping the next gen IS is acceptable in the back seat specs. The current gen is a bit too small...just asking for a couple inches If it stays the same, gonna probably get a G sedan

Just noticed its a NIssan Skyline, look at the badge. Supposed to use Benz platform, Renault/Benz engines thus so much for "Japanese" leverage. I'm happy Lexus designed a new platform for the GS and the IS will use it again.
