The new all-aluminum F-Type is a strict two-seat affair, none of the leather-wrapped and seatbelt-equipped parcel shelves of the XK here. Available in three trims, F-Type, F-Type S and F-Type V8 S, the baby Jag will offer one of three powertrains, a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 with 340 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque, a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 (380 hp / 339 lb-ft.), or a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 (495 hp / 460 lb-ft). The sole transmission at launch will be ZF's ubiquitous eight-speed automatic, with paddles and a more conventional gearshift lever in favor of the rotary selector of recent fame. Jag won't confirm it, but we suspect a manual transmission will be made available in a year's time, possibly on a harder-core R model. In its top specification, Jag promises a 0-60 dash of 4.2 seconds and a limited top speed of 186 mph. The mid-level V6 S does the deed in 4.8 seconds and taps out at 171 mph, while the 'base' F-Type still runs to 60 in 5.1 seconds and hits a 161-mph vMax. While we have yet to drive them, we have heard the new cars fire up and under power, as the Brits say, they sound "right cracking."

Im surprised it doesnt have the round rising shifter. This doesnt look like a jaguar, it looks italian for some reason but maybe its a good change

It's lovely, but I wonder how this is going to affect XK sales in the meantime as the replacement is being readied. The current model still carries an overall design that dates back to the early 2000s, compared to this that was designed in late 2010-mid 2011.

That isn't true, especially with the later models. My dad owns three XJs(2000, 2006, and 2009) and only the latter two have been free of severe issues. All of them are the supercharged variants, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference in comparison to the normally aspirated models. The only Jags with severe reliability issues are the XJ40s(1986-1994) and the Nikasil-lined V8s built from 1996-2000. My mom's BMWs have been in the shop the most of all the cars we own and they're even driven significantly less compared to the XJs.

That's just a long-held stereotype, as being the son of a man who has owned 3 Jaguars for the past 12 years, I can vouch for Jaguar reliability. All of them to date have been great and are hassle free in comparison to German makes. The only ones that have been flawless are Lexus(of course), Toyota, and Bentley, with Infiniti following by a close second. BMW has fared the worst in terms of reliability, followed by Ford. I can't understand why everyone automatically assumes Jaguar reliability to be so terrible when it only applies to mostly pre-Ford models or lower-end ones like S-Type/X-Type. In fact, they've done quite well the last several years in reliability rankings and surveys, so I don't know where this is coming from. The F-Type will do perfectly as it looks distinctive and sexy, plus Jaguar of late always comes under Lexus in terms of reliability.

And my friend's 2007 E92 328i is trouble-free. I've never heard about him visiting a repair shop once since he bought the car used 2 years ago. You can't really assume the overall reliability of a brand is good based on personal experience.

You're right about that, but it is a middle-aged woman driving them from time to time and on rare occasions myself or siblings. The worst of all of them was her 2010 F02 760Li which was a lemon and started having problems after only 4 months of driving it. That had to be traded in for a 2011 model after 6 months of frequent issues. The '06 model before it was not much better in terms of reliability nor the '09 E64 650i. The only one that had little issues was the 2001 E38 740iL that lasted over 5 years with little issues. The only upside BMW has over Jaguar to me is in terms of feature content and handling.

Yeah at $69,000 it's a "steal". That means V8 model will be just a bit cheaper than XKR.

I fail to see who is going to give them that much money after 3 years on the market for a small two seater and 340hp, that is M3 convertible territory if you want convertible fun car. But then again '"Z4 35somethinSomethin" is also priced above $60k I believe, so who is insane here? Few people who bought SLK AMG for that much money they are insane That many or even fewer will buy faux Z4 M variant and this new F-Type.

It's $13,000 overpriced.

Beautiful car but it is priced way too high if it is 70K. I thought this was supposed to be somewhat affordable and they were hoping to move a decent amount. 70K for a front engined 340hp V6 is just too high no matter how pretty it is.

Jaguar has laid down a price tag on its sultry new aluminum-chassis'd convertible, the 2013 F-Type. Buyers looking to bring one of the sports cars home will face down an MSRP of $69,000 (*plus a $875 destination fee). That price tag includes a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine good for 340 horsepower mated to an eight-speed ZF paddleshift automatic. Step up to the $81,000* F-Type S, and the same engine serves up an additional 40 horsepower, active exhaust, a mechanical limited-slip differential, uprated brakes and launch control, among other niceties. The extra grunt shoots the convertible to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds (down from 5.1) and increases the roadster's top speed by 10 mph to 171 mph.
