Not the future of smart, the future of dumb!

My GM mechanic has a used car dealership and had a Smart for-2 on his lot. I took it for a test drive and feared for my life pulling out onto a 50 MPH road due to the lack of power and the awful semi-auto transmission. Interior space and comfort for 2 is OK, but the drivetrain is horrible - and doesn't get that great of mileage.

That's why it is the dumbest car you can buy right now, is ironic that it's name is "Smart".

The Smart car has nothing really going for it. There are many sub-compact / compact cars out there that get better mileage and provide much better protection. And Mini and Fiat make better premium compacts. In NYC you're not allowed to park perpendicular to the curb, or squeeze in between meters, so the size is not really an advantage either. Maybe if they had brought the diesel/manual version over it would have made some kind of sense.
