Cool Consumer Reports Looking for Suggestions Ultra-High-Performance (UHP) Tires.

To prepare for their upcoming test group, Consumer Reports is researching which tires to test and will start purchasing examples very shortly. Their main criterion is to buy tires that will be around by the time they complete their testing.

I've tried Potenza RE760, Yokahama S.Drive, and Hankook V12s on my IS. All good summer performance tires and all relatively priced the same

Most of the type of auto-buyers that typically read CR are probably, for several reasons, not interested in vehicles with that type of tire on them, anyway. There isn't much of a market here in the U.S. for tires that are 150-MPH speed-rated....and you usually won't find them on the country's top-selling vehicles like Accord, Camry, Altima, etc.....

Of course, some owners of sports and high-performance cars are willing to void their factory-warranty and use their vehicles on the track, drag strip, or in rally/autocrossing. For them, maybe they would be interested in knowing which UHP tires give the best numbers....so the test is not entirely without merit.

Yes.....I started reading CR about that age, too, as a high-school junior. Of course, back then (late 1960s), auto-reviews and ratings were much simpler than today. Today, the average CR auto-buying guide is like an advanced college-level textbook......just pages and pages of graphs, charts, lists, and statistics.

I don't know why they put Michelin PS2 on the list. The replacment Super Sport already out for a while, and is by far the best.
