As to the BMW, they have more supply than Lexus.. obviously they just pampered the sales last month and that got them back this month... it seems as if MB is moving ahead.

I wonder how much better Lexus could be doing if they had more models to sell, from nicer small engines to big engines... sales would be for sure up another 20%-30%
I still think that is debatable. BMW has added some potentially high volume sellers over the past year or so (X1, new X3, 3-series sedan and lesser extent new 6-series model lines, updated X5 and X6, etc) and IMO I do not think that overall sales reflect that big of a sales increase (also take into account Tsunami events last year). They may have added more model lines, but are likely capped by how many vehicles they can actually produce.

it is not debatable since you can check their inventory levels on cars.com for instance, which are usually up to 30% less than real life... so in reality, BMW has 2 month supply right now and Lexus has 1.5 month supply under these sales numbers :-).

Lexus has gotten their supply up 2x since January and hence the sales increase... BMW has plenty of cars to sell.

for instance there 4800 5 series on sale and 3500 GS's. And those numbers are some 20% or so less than real inventory numbers.... so no, there is no shortage of models.

anyone: any way to know?

not that it matters much, it's a great car and going to sell very well.

you or someone has said the same about Camry after 2 months of 40k sales last year :-)

bitkahuna: probably 5k new ones sold by now, another 2k-3k at dealers right now. It is hard to say for brand new models as a lot of them are sold before they even come to dealerships so they dont get entered online.

Most brands depend on 1-3 models, it's no news flash and it's also not accurate to look at one month. Clearly the new ES and it's huge month moved the percentag in August.

All that needs to be said since trolls around the net are ignoring and not menttioning

1. Lexus bounced back to #1
2. The GS continues to do well and outsold the 5
3. The ES dominated
4. The RX dominated

Just last month the GS got ripped to shreds for selling 1660 units. Sales jumped, it sold 2nd best in class this month and all you hear are crickets. These same crickets have been quiet about the m flop for months.

Lets see if this Lexus momentum continues.

Default Lexus is back in the game tops BMW and MB

If anyone ever had any doubts that Mr. Toyoda is serious about placing the Lexus brand back on top, Automotive News reports that Lexus sales increased 34% in July pushing the brand ahead of BMW and MB for July. Can Lexus sustain it's momentum? I believe they can, the ES is just getting out of the door and has really not picked up steam yet and the LS is waiting in the wings with its sport version and we all know the story about the GS, it's sales are leading the way. We know that BMW and MB still leads in yearly sales, but, I'm sure they are both looking over their shoulders now........, Check out the complete article below:

DETROIT (Bloomberg) -- Lexus, which lost its crown as the top-selling luxury auto brand in the U.S. last year, increased sales 34 percent last month to push past Mercedes-Benz and BMW.

It’s the first time Toyota's luxury brand beat both of its German competitors to be No. 1 in monthly sales since December 2010 before inventory was hurt by last year’s natural disasters in Asia. Lexus sold 24,237 vehicles in August, the company said in a statement.

While Lexus won the month, it still trails Mercedes and BMW for the year. U.S. sales of Mercedes rose 11 percent to 20,557 last month, extending its lead in the race for the luxury crown this year by more than 3,800 units over BMW.

The BMW brand, after surging in July with the help of incentives aimed at encouraging dealers to buy demo vehicles, declined 19 percent in August to 16,835.

Mercedes U.S. sales through August rose 14 percent to 168,462, according to the automaker.

BMW, which overtook Lexus last year to become the top-selling luxury brand in the U.S., sold 164,636 through August, a 5.6 percent gain, the company said. BMW beat Mercedes last year by 2,715 deliveries in the U.S.

Through August, Lexus sales gained 25 percent to 150,604. Toyota has targeted a 25 percent increase to 250,000 vehicles this year.

Mercedes expanded its lead over BMW from 104 U.S. deliveries through July. The sales results don’t include Daimler’s cargo vans and Smart cars and BMW’s Mini brand, which aren’t luxury vehicles.

“With an all-time record setting year so far and now with exciting product in the pipeline, including the all-new GL-Class currently on its way to dealers across the country, we plan to build on this momentum through the end of the year,” Steve Cannon, head of Mercedes in the U.S., said in a statement.

They are making all the right moves with this revamping of the looks and image of the brand. I was reading an article today that said the sales of the 4GS are 400% over those of the 3GS. ( it was an article on the 2013 LS. I forget the magazine)

For my13, the land rover lr2 receives significant interior and exterior design updates, as well as a fuel efficient 240-hp turbocharged four cylinder engine.

Jaguar
jaguar's u.s. Sales for august, 2012 were up 27 percent to 1,029 from 810 in 2011. The volume leader for the month of august was the jaguar xf with 493 sales, up 21 percent from 409 in 2011. For my13, jaguar transforms its u.s. Lineup, and dramatically expands u.s. Market presence with addition of:

Instinctive all wheel drive™ – available on both the xf and xj
supercharged 340hp v6 engines in the xf and xj
turbocharged 240hp four cylinder engine available in the xf

jaguar has launched a new global brand direction and marketing campaign, themed "alive,” which introduces the famed british brand to luxury consumers in a new modern context. The brand direction is driven by the belief that jaguar makes the world's most instinctively rewarding performance cars.

The campaign, created with spark 44, the international communications agency that's part-owned by jaguar land rover, will feature print, tv, digital advertising and a new look that contemporizes the aesthetics of the brand at every customer touch point. The jaguar brand will have new corporate identification and a new font, created exclusively for the brand. The dramatic alteration, including significant changes to the brand symbols of the “leaper” and “growler,” is the most extensive change jaguar has made to its visual identification in 40 years.

Jaguar's 2012 model year line-up features three models: The jaguar xj luxury sedan, powered by either the naturally-aspirated 385-hp v8, the 470-hp supercharged 5.0 liter v8 or the 510-hp supercharged 5.0 liter v8; the jaguar xf sports sedan powered by either the naturally-aspirated 385-hp v8, the 470-hp supercharged 5.0 liter v8 or, in the xfr, the 510-hp supercharged 5.0 liter v8 powertrains; and the xk coupe and convertible sports cars powered by either the naturally-aspirated 385-hp v8, or for the xkr, the 510-hp supercharged 5.0 liter v8 powertrains.
