2013 Toyota Auris debuts ahead of Paris show

most def... Scion was big success prior to recession. Toyota is on new model change from 2015 until 2018 they will replace most of their vehicles, so it makes a lot of sense for some of them to see US light as Scion models.

Scion was also born because Toyota felt like they needed a different brand to reach younger buyers since Toyota was "uncool" in the 90's and early 00's. That stigma has passed with a string of strong products with great styling, so the whole existence for Scion is now moot.
Just my .02, but I do know that many dealers feel the same way and have looked at ways to get rid of the Scion portion of their showroom... well, until the FR-S arrived, anyway.

It still provides Toyota a place to try new things like Pure Pricing, etc. So I don't think it is completely "moot" to have Scion around. they just needed the product pipeline to keep it interesting, which they wholly admitted that they failed on.

Toyota Auris facelift makes spy photo debut

Likely on sale next year
The Toyota Auris facelift has been spied for the first time ahead of next year’s probable launch.
It seems Toyota is not only working on a high-riding Cross derivative of the Auris but they are also preparing a facelift for the regular model. Based on what we can see from these long-distance and grainy spy shots, the five-door hatchback is about to get a modest nip and tuck which will include revisions to both bumpers and what appear to be slightly restyled headlights & taillights along with horizontal rear reflectors.
Some modest tweaks inside the cabin are expected as well while the engine lineup will probably be carried over. Depending on the market, the Auris is available with a 98 bhp 1.33-liter gasoline engine, a beefier 130 bhp 1.6-liter Valvematic along with a more frugal 1.4 D-4D diesel rated at 89 bhp (66 kW) and 205 Nm (151 lb-ft) of torque.
Similar upgrades will likely be implemented in the Auris Hybrid which mixes up a 1.8-liter VVT-i gasoline engine with an electric motor to provide a combined output of 134 bhp (100 kW) and 142 Nm (105 lb-ft). It's enough for a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in 10.9 seconds and a 112 mph (180 km/h) top speed.
An official reveal of the Toyota Auris hatchback and wagon facelift will occur at a major auto show next year.

Once you strip off the flashy bits that won't make production, or imagine something more production-ready (wheels, bumpers, skirts, lights, drop, side mirrors)... hard to think this car is going to debut as a 2015 or 2016 model. Looks a few years old... (and oddly 90% like a Rav4 with less ground clearance)
