Dealer key and remote programming?
Hey guys just had some questions about the keyless entry on my 2006 Mitsubishi Raider. When I bought the truck it only had 1 key. I called the dealer and had them look up if it had factory keyless entry and it does. Dealer price for just 1 key with the built in remote was $260 and an additional $90 for programming! He suggested I buy it online so I did. $107 for 2 keys with built in remote. Found out i need 2 original keys to program the new ones.
Anyways. I call the dealer and he says that most keys online will NOT work and would charge $200 just to try and it would take at least 3 hours.
I called another dealer and they say the same price but said it should be ok with the key I bought.
So what in the world do they do to spend 3 hours to program a key and remote? And is that a reasonable price. Even if they're have to program the immobilizer would it not be as simple as hooking up some sort of scan tool.
I can pay the $200 to program but it just seems excessive. What do you guys think?
Thanks
