Honda Accord, Fit and Pilot to receive Dreamy new engines, CVTs

Honda may not be laughing as much as you think. Sure, they are still making money, much like GM once did, and relying on aging, mediocre products. Their new Civic model is getting awful reviews, and if the rest of their line up follows in Civics footsteps, they are going to be the next GM in another 10 years.

Sorry, but Toyota has had that resolved with their D4-S dual injection system, which debuted in 2005, that was 7 years ago. So this still is a big embarrassment for Honda.

310 HP is plenty is a Accord for the average family that wants the 6 cyl..The car will be quick.
A GS has 306 HP.That's a car that should have more HP.
Most Accords sold will be the 4 cyl.
Some may knock Honda but Civics and Accords have sold well and probably always will.
The next generation Accord may outsell the Camry..

The sleeper in this discussion of mid-size cars is the coming Ford Fusion. Totally new design with racy styling and advanced engineering. Like the Sonata, there is no V-6, but a high tech Ecoboost 2 liter 4 cylinder for top power. They have gone down in engine size for the hybrid and will have really outstanding mpg in a mid-size car.
Will the typical American "family car" buyer embrace new styling/technology or will they keep buying the traditional Camry and Accord? Ford has taken a big risk betting on advanced styling/technology in what has been a conservative segment. If they fail, look for more dull mid size sedans in the future.

D4S dual port- and direct-injection technology is just midway compromise, introducing more components by the way.
Toyota's D4-S is just a band-aid for being legally stuck having to keep PCV on the car from the factory.

Their new direct-injected 3.5L still-SOHC V6...
310hp/265tq. Hmmm...
VQ35HR: 306hp/268tq
2GR-FSE: 306hp/277tq
So after nearly 10 years Honda finally manages to get a whole 4hp more from their 3.5L class engine than their Japanese rivals Lexus and Infiniti, but still come up short on torque. Some things just never change. 10 years of progress in action, eh?
