Kia engineers lock themselves out of Quoris prototype... in the desert
Locking your keys in your car is never a fun experience. You have to call the auto club or tow service, wait for them to either bring you a new key or break into your car for you. It's something that happens to everyone at least once, and then you (try to) remember never to do it again.
A team of Kia engineers putting a Quoris luxury sedan prototype through its paces in the desert have just performed the lockout test – unintentionally. As you can see from these photos from the spy shooters at KGP Photography, once locked out of the car, the entire team went to work, trying to get back into the sedan by the most high-tech means possible: screwdriver, pry bar and wire hook.
According to our intrepid spy photographers, the engineers toiled with the locks of the future Korean flagship for some time before getting the car opened – and not without a bit of embarrassment.
If only the Quoris had some sort of telematics system like OnStar from General Motors or Blue Link from sister marque Hyundai, they could have just called in and had the doors unlocked remotely. Perhaps it'll be an option?

Great way to test a car. Next time a cop passes by, be like officer I am an engineer <insert name of car company> I locked myself out of the car, so there is nothing to see here

I never understood how you can lock yourself out?
So you leave the key in the car/on the seat/on the dash/who knows where, open car door, and manually/intentionally locking it with the door lock lever on the door, and close the door shut?
Who here has done that (on an oem unit) when >95% of the time you push LOCK in the key fob as you get out ???
The possible scenario I can think of is these guys accidentally left the key in the trunk and close it and now they're going through the front door.
Exactly.
Unless it's not a smart key, it's practically impossible to lock yourself out.
The system will beep like mad in the car or in the trunk.
If key is in ignition with engine running and door is open, you CAN NOT manually lock the door.
It'll unlock right away.

it is probably smart key that didnt detect the key inside so it let them lock the door :-).
i agree it is not simple to do this, i wonder what set of circumstances let to this happening.

I will admit that a keyless entry system should have prevented this but its a test vehicle. It may not have all of the bells and whistles functioning. This car will absolutely have keyless entry when sold

Looks like the trunk is open in the picture?
If so, I'd have to ask... why not just crawl in the trunk then thru the back seat and open the doors? (Yes I've done this for someone before )
Can only think of 3 reasons why they wouldn't crawl thru:
1) The rear seat doesn't fold down,
2) The rear seat was locked so it wouldn't fold down
3) The engineers didn't think to do it
