Earlier this week, we brought forward reports that Aston Martin is considering downsizing its lineup of engines, which almost exclusively include V-8s and V-12s. This consideration is an obvious attempt to squeeze a few more mpg out of its lineup without depleting horsepower, which will allow the boutique automaker to achieve the fuel economy numbers required by the ongoing CAFE standards.
According to De Telegraf, Aston Martin may be considering Toyota as a partner in this downsizing attempt. In particular, Aston is eyeballing the V-10 engine used in the Lexus LF-A and the 8-pot used in several other Lexus models.
The old 6.0L V12 is aging. The new Vanquish has 560hp over its 510hp DBS predecessor. Still trailing the likes of other ultra luxury makes and exotics. Infact the 6.0L V12 shares it's roots with the old 3.0L Duratec V6 used by Ford. Put two together hah. The 4.7L V8 puts out 420hp (430 in the S) and 361lbft so it's still pretty relevant more bhp than the 5.0L F engine but less lbft. But overall yes, some new power trains including transmissions would be a welcome addition to some of the most stunning cars on the market
I care less about big huge power and more about the reliability the Lexus engines can bring to Aston Martin. I think it's a great move.
have you heard of problems with the 6.0L V12 and 4.7L V8?? The V12 is ancient, but it's tried and true, and the V8 has been around since 2008 though it was a 4.3L in 06, 07'.
I hope the V10 is bespoke to the LFA and is no used by any other manufacturer. That is the greatest part of the car, and what essentially made the LFA famous.

Actually, I haven't. Astons seem to be more reliable than other high end cars.
