I've driven and owned a ton of cars from Lexus IS250/350 to 3 Corvettes, Audi & Subarus...the Prius is not loud inside....great commuter car. Sure it's not bank-vault quiet but no car I have driven has been (I don't like driving big huge luxo cruisers). Go pay double the money for a CT200h if you don't like the Prius.

Bit - if you hear tire roar it's shtty tires..not the car.

I guess it's all relative. Had two 3rd gen Prius and both were 'loud' to me.

you're entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts.

in another thread on here about the accord, MANY (most) say the accord is not a quiet car, and upper trim levels at least usually have decent tires on them.

prius tires are no doubt designed for good economy / low rolling resistance, not being quiet. a search on 'prius loud' and you'll see plenty who agree. from engine noise to road noise to almost no sound insulation (presumably to keep weight and fuel consumption down).

hey here's the search:
https://www.google.com/search?q=priu...utf-8&oe=utf-8

i particularly liked this one titled "10 things i hate about the prius"
https://fourwheeldrift.wordpress.com...-toyota-prius/ and this quote:

3) It’s loud inside: An amazing thing – when you take all the sound deadening material out, a car becomes really frigging loud at speed. A Prius seems to transmit more road noise to the cockpit than a 60’s Corvette with warped bias-ply tires. I’d hate to go cross country in one.

Civic loud road noise... https://www.google.com/webhp?sourcei...20road%20noise
Accord loud road noise... https://www.google.com/webhp?sourcei...oud+road+noise

no surprise there with the hondas being known for being noisy, and the rx seemingly having become more noisy in recent gens. as i've said on here, i fairly regularly go in my neighbor's '14 rx and i've driven it too and while smooth and pleasant to drive, it's not 'lexus quiet'.

either way, i believe it's about insufficient wheel well insulation to save money. tires matter too of course.

Not just a lack of wheel-well insulation, but obsession with large wheels and low-profile tires today also adds to road noise. Large wheels and wide tires put more of a rubber contact-patch on the road, which picks up more noise to start with and transfers it inside the car. And the lower-profiles mean that not enough rubber (in thickness) is present to absorb and dampen out the noise before it gets to the suspension and cabin. My Verano, for instance, is library-quiet on smoother asphalt (easily the quietest compact sedan I've ever seen), but, on concrete and on some porous asphalt surfaces, even with the Buick excellent Quiet-Tuning, some road noise comes through with the 18", low-profile 45-series tires. That would probably be largely avoided if they had used 55 or 60-series tires like IMO they should have. That's why, even though I otherwise like the upcoming Cascada (essentially a Verano convertible), the standard 20" wheels are a deal-breaker for me....no dice.

Back to the Prius, I can't imagine the Prius using wide, low-profile rubber, either....simply because of the matter of rolling resistance cutting down on MPG.

Looks like the Canadian spec car swaps out the roller tonneau cover for a cardboard parcel shelf in the trunk. (near the end of the video)

I actually like this type (altho that one looks a little cheap) better. Roll up ones are a pain and I've had 2 that rattled that I ended up just removing (Prius and WRX).

That 'shelf' is very similar to the one found on the NX. Wonder if it folds flat under the trunk floor like the NX

I caught the test mules a while back during July. So many manufacturers do hot weather testing here in AZ

it is likely to be revealed next year, so soon i guess (but production could be in 2017, who knows).

However, i do hope that this time, Lexus gets different variation of same tech.... lets have it be more powerful.
