Lexus has plenty of SUV's but what if Lexus created a real X3 or GLK fighter based off of the Toyota RAV4. Too much or bring it?

With Buick's upcoming Encore, a competing Lexus this size might not be a bad idea.

Hard to tell with the GLK, but I don't think that most X3 buyers would be very interested in a Lexus alternative.

we know it is coming... hopefully they wont gimp Rav4 because of it...

MPLexus301 05-16-12 10:43 AM

In theory, I'd buy it.

As long as Lexus makes them nothing alike, it would be a very good idea.

Having seen that thing in person, it is not much of a Rav4 competitor at all...more like a luxury version of a Scion xD. Very small, and much more like a wagon/hatchback.

so yeah, hopefully they dont gimp Rav4 on purpose... historically, Rav4 has been the best looking Toyota.

Hoovey2411 05-16-12 11:38 AM

The Buick Encore seems more X1 sized now than X3

Lexus SO should do this. Mini-lux-utes are gaining sales: X1, GLK, Mini Countryman, upcoming Q3 and Q1... Lexus doesn't want to get behind in this segment.

I'd be interested especially if it's hybrid.

Yes, I saw it, too...at the D.C. Auto Show in January. But it seems to be about the same exterior size as the red graphic Lexus cute-ute shown in the opening post.....which is noticeably larger than an xD.

Looks good to me! I could see how that could get popular, especially around SoCal!

I would LOVE if lexus came out with a cute ute smaller/cheaper than the current rx. Having a hybrid model too would be even better!

BertL 05-16-12 06:52 PM

I've owned an RX since 1999, and even with my new RX450h coming in another 3 weeks or so, I'd be interested in a hybrid version... Before my first RX, I owned a RAV4 that my mom has been driving ever since, and honestly considered switching back to a new RAV before ordering my RX450h last Fall.. The RAV size, and if it was hybrid with Lexus amenities, would match me perfectly -- better than my next RX for sure. ...just please, Lexus, make the back hatch open vertically like my RX's, instead of horizontally as the RAVs always have, to fit in my garage so I can open the back with the garage door closed.

Interesting...

If it's a hybrid it could be called CX 300h

Since Infiniti has the EX designation that's not gonna work for the next Lexus CUV.

Another option could be the IX 250/350.

I say bring it Lexus with a vengence...
