Starting with the 2013 Altima, Nissan will be launching five all-new products in the United States over the next 15 months. And while the sedan you see here is initially heading to China as the Nissan Sylphy, it'll be heading to our shores as the Sentra later this year, albeit with a few market-specific tweaks.
For now, Nissan has released a short video teaser of the North American-spec 2013 Sentra, which you can view after the jump. The video shows the new compact sedan in its SR trim, which Autoblog has learned is only a North American-specific trim package. The rest of the Sylphy's styling appears to carry over largely unchanged, with new details like LED running lamps and taillamps rounding out a design that's essentially a downsized version of what we see on the new Altima.
In China, the Sylphy will be launched with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine mated to Nissan's next-generation Xtronic continuously variable transmission. It might not be an all-new powertrain, but remember, this is the same strategy that Nissan is using with the new Altima – one that has paid big dividends in fuel economy. The engines themselves haven't changed, but with an improved CVT, we should see gains in not only performance but fuel economy, as well.

Personally I think the styling is much improved inside and out. I just hope for Nissan's sake that the car is competitive. Seriously when was the last time the "current" Sentra was even compared against the competition? 2007 when it was released? In one of the most hotly contested segments, Nissan completely neglected this small car. It has a lot of ground to cover to catch up with Focus, Cruze, Elantra, Mazda3, Corolla, Civic, Jetta - hell even the Kia Forte.

I can see some not liking the exterior (personally I think it has a slightly higher than class look) but how can you call the interior cheapo? It's quite tasteful and, judging by recent Nissan interiors, should be very well-made. Looks miles better inside and out than Civic and the current Corolla.

Interior is ok, still cheap. This is their top version, likely pretty pricey, and looks too simple:
And IMHO, I have Nissan, they are not as well built as Toyota or Honda.

The new Civic interior is a cluttered design mess and full of cheap plastic. Nissan's interiors as of late have been on par or superior to comparable Toyota and Hondas. On glaring exception would be the Versa sedan.

That's not the US Spec Civic. The American Auto Press has not been kind to the latest Civic. The Sulphy you are seeing will probably represent the US Sentra 100% sold here in the states.

Yall need to stop posting those beautiful touched up interior pics I do think its designed very well, the exterior not so much, will need to see in person. Nissan's new releases seem to at least be solid or well done so I expect this to continue.
Would love to see the 2 door and SE-R come back!
