How is the Quattro name dumb? It simply refers to the AWD. "Quattro" means "four", as in the Maserati Quattroporte meaning "four doors".

I think he means Audi referred to the model of the car as "Quattro" and nothing else. It would be like Chevy bringing out a car with AWD and they name it the Chevy AWD. I agree Audi was very primitive in it's early days.

Also just thought of Chevy Citation. How that passed the marketing department is beyond me. Chevy Chevette was also in the same group.

Agreed, the current naming of Lincoln sedans is not helping the brand one bit. Way too alike for the average non-car person to grasp.

At least the model names used to have style. Cougar, Mustang, Impala, Jaguar, and Barracuda all implied freedom and power; place names drew associations like Bel-Air, Montego, Biscayne, Monterrey, Sierra, Silverado, Cordoba, and Laguna were filled with the exotic promise of fashionable destinations. Daytona, Monza, LeMans, Sebring, and Bonneville all speak of speed and performance. Today, SC400, LS430, 740L A-8, and S68 have all the appeal of an accountant's ledger.

I should have also added Buick Rondevous to the list too.
Probe by Ford?

Yeah, some of the names sounds stupid, but then again, I think I preferred it when cars had names... not just numbers.

Exactly my point, the best one was the Audi V8, what kind of name is that
