Thumbs up Lexus LFA II Rumors: Twice the Car, Twice the Price

http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2...the-price.html

The Lexus LFA is undoubtedly a supercar, but many criticized its lofty $375,000 price tag.

When compared to its performance rivals that figure seems downright excessive. After all, for $225,000 you can land a Ferrari 458 Italia or for $90,000 there’s the Nissan GT-R. Then again, at this level you’re paying as much for exclusivity as for price and with just 500 units ever made, and the fact that the LFA is undoubtedly Japan’s first ever supercar, the automaker had no trouble finding buyers.

Based on that car’s success and Toyota’s newfound performance spirit under the leadership of CEO Akio Toyoda, Lexus is already preparing a successor that will be vastly more impressive in terms of performance. It will also be vastly more expensive.

Our well-connected source was informed by a senior Toyota executive who prefers to remain anonymous that plans for an LFA II are currently in the works. The new supercar has been described as twice the car, with a significantly higher performance level. To match that new performance, pricing will climb steeply, into the range of $800,000 to one million dollars.

Like the LFA it will be an exclusive product, but even more so than the original, with plans to produce just 100 units.

If its true I think its great. Lexus is now in a realm that was unthinkable 20 years ago. The LFA is already considered one of the all time greats. Its elevated Lexus into rare air and the LFA has gotten glowing praise. I would love to see an even better version and it can only elevate the entire brand even more.

For this new one I hope Lexus get crazy with the HP. I want to see a 750 HP mid engined super car from Japan.

THIS.

But i won't mind an LFA-II if the new tech trickles down to lesser models.

When Honda announced the introduction of their business-class jet in Orlando in 2006 at the NBAA conference, many people were impressed. With over 100 people plunking down deposits on the $3.6 million mini-jet, it was supposed to hail the first venture into aerospace by an automaker. Their publicity machine was better oiled than the gears of bureaucracy. Thus far three "conforming" HondaJets have been built, it isn't fully certified by the FAA, and production schedules look sketchy.

It's becoming clear that Honda cranked out the design that incorporates a number of excellent innovations - without consulting the market. Rated as a four-place design, its payload is only 600 lbs, and one of those passengers is going to be your pilot. So you and he and your luggage are going to have a nice trip, but don't count on taking any of your full-scale friends or associates with you. The bizjet market requires you offer seating for at least four, and these people have to be adults. Unless you can get them to FedEx their luggage, they're not carrying anything other than their toothbrush and a clean shirt with them.

It's all about corporate image. The HondaJet is a corporate halo for Honda, marking them as a "player" on the international scene, not necessarily a genuine competitor. I'm afraid the LFA2 might be just the same. The Enzo did it for Ferrari, producing a few examples of a car that was capable of a vast turn of speed, but only useful if you lived next door to the Bonneville Salt Flats and were trailed by a fire engine. Bugatti did the same thing with the Veyron, producing a wildly impractical car that shows well in the automag trade, but will not be a major seller.

The mission of all of these products is to lend a bit of panache to lesser products in their downline. The LFA2 will be popular among the 14-year-old mouth-breathers that hang out around the magazine rack at the grocery store and spec racers that love to battle over numbers, but aside from a few charter members of the "more money than brains club", their sales won't have much effect on the market except by reflected glory.

oh yeah. BRING IT LEXUS!!

this will definately bring more innovations to the surface. Now we have to ponder the powertrain this beast will harness. some say V12 twin-turbo? what type of drivetrain will be implemented to justify this possible 7 figure price tag? and it has to look meaner, lower, and wider
