Ferrari has been known to produce one-off vehicles for customers, most notably the F430-based SP1 created for a wealthy Japanese collector in 2008 as well as the P540 Superfast Aperta created on the 599 FTB Fiorano platform in 2009.
Now, if the Ferrari afficianados over on FerrariChat.com are correct, Ferrari Special Projects program has built a third vehicle, this time for musician Eric Clapton, who is known to be a passionate Ferrari collector.
The car looks to be based on the 458 Italia and has distinct styling references to the 12-cylinder Ferrari 512 BB built in the late 1970s and early 1980s with a large lower grille, hood slats and flying buttresses at the rear. Judging from the photos, the interior appears to be relatively unchanged from the 458 Italia, and the mid-mounted 4.5-liter V8 is likely still in place as well.

You'd expect someone with a nickname like "hotshoe" or "leadfoot" to be behind the wheel of a Ferrari. "Slowhand" less so, but that's the nickname of one Eric Clapton, who in addition to being one of the most highly acclaimed rock and blues guitarists of all time also happens to be a huge nut for the Prancing Horse marque. In fact, Clapton is understood to have swung by Maranello a couple of years back, where he presumably got the reddest of red carpet treatments while placing an order for a custom Ferrari.
That unique one-off, called the SP12 EPC has been dropping on and off of our radar, with some grainy snapshots a couple of weeks ago and some hasty video footage of the custom creation leaving a dealership in the UK a few days thereafter. But if those didn't provide clear enough a picture for you, a batch of alleged patent renderings have now surfaced showing every line of the car's bespoke shape.

A few months ago a mystery Ferrari was photographed in a London dealership with various sources all but confirming it was a one-off creation built for musician Eric Clapton. Now Ferrari has made it official, formally unveiling the car named SP12 EC.
Built in cooperation with Ferrari's Special Projects program and Pininfarina, the SP12 EC is essentially a 458 Italia clad with all new body panels inspired by the 512 BB of the late 1970s and early 1980s, of which Clapton has owned three. The musician reportedly wanted one of Ferrari's 6.0-liter V12s squeezed into the engine bay, but all signs indicate that the 458 Italia's 4.5-liter is still in place. The only thing missing is a set of vintage series wheels from HRE.
Ferrari isn't revealing the price tag of Clapton's one-off SP12 EC, but estimates put the tally right around the £3 million mark, which seems to be the going rate for a bespoke supercar from the Italian manufacturer.
