Question 01 LX470 to 08/09 ML350

Alright i would have posted this in the lx section, but it is always dead so i posted it here. Does anyone here have any input on going from an 01 lx470 to 08/09 ml350 mercedes? We already have an rx350 and the gas mileage on the gx470 isn't that great. My main question is anyone has a good amount of experience with the ml. I checked mercedes forums and most are talking about service or the 06-07 ml with is different from the 08 and up. Any input would be great. If it was up to me, we would have a gx470 but gas is ridiculous. I have looked up reliability ratings and there seems nothing to be out of the ordinary on the ml350's. I don;t want one with a V8 or with the air suspension as this is for my mom and she doesn't need it. Thanks agiain

the gas mileage on the ml350 is that much better than gx470?

with the ml350, what a fear as usual is reliability and little problems here and there, especially after warranty.

It's a litte better, and there are more ml's with more options and elss mileage for cheaper, and most of the people i have asked have said they are reliable.

I'd rather put $ spent towards gas on a GX than the repair bill on an ML

gotcha

08-09 is out of chrysler's merger era so it "should" be better.

Is it a LX470 or GX470? Anyway, I had a LX470 before and the gas mileage isn't that bad at all. Maybe your Mom just want a newer car?

With an lx470 we are getting 14 mpg with all city driving, the gx470 is about 17 but she doesn't really need the space. The ml seems to be a good fit, to be honest its between a gx470 and an ml350 right now, theres just so many more ml's with low mileage for cheaper for sale

If you want to read some reviews of people who purchased an 08 ML350, here:

Hope it helps.

I know which sucks, it's the same case with lx's and lc's and the ones that are for sale have ridiculously high mileage. To be honest if it were me I would opt for the gx, but my mom has talked to numerous people who love their ml's. Thing that pisses me off most is the mb tex, any car in that price range should have leather standard. I mean most people has said 08+ you will be good with ml'a so we will see. Unless a low mileage gx470 pops up. If only the rx were bigger, or even the Infiniti jx but that isn't supposed to come out for a while and the mdx, technically it fits every requirement but neither my
Mom not I can get over its looks, it's a shame because if it looked it it would be by far a great vehicle for so many people

yes i absolutely hear you. resale of gx, lx, and lc are also very high due to all the shippers exporting the cars out of the country, driving up the demand.

Used luxury SUVs are almost always high mileage b/c they're luxury soccer mom rides (so be it)

The ML will drive better (IMO), will fit in parking spots more easily but will require higher long-term running costs (Merc parts are ridiculous) and smaller things will fail (electronics, sensors, etc). The MLs are built in Alabama and Merc has had production problems out of that factory.

Remember the LX is built off the landcruiser platform (if it fails, you die in the desert kind of reliability std). But the interior is dated and the newer ones (2003-2007) haven't depreciated as much as you / I would like so...
If gas is a real concern for you, suggest you look at a Lexus or a diesel ML.

100% spot on, resale value and how many on the market is a direct reflection of how good the car is as it age

Want it cheap and don't mind the headaches? Buy a V12 W220 for the cost of a Corolla, I start to see beat up W220 in ghetto neighborhood because they worth so little, LMAF.

Hell yes. Repairs are not just money, is major headaches too. Unless money is no object and you got a personal assistant that deals with the headaches for you.
