Next-Gen Lexus IS

If you want back seat room, you can't go IS-F.
The GS-F will be $70K.
The new GS should have more HP,IMO.
A new generation and a IS350 engine is used to save money.
306 HP is adequate but there to save money.
Even if they bumped it up to 320-325 HP.Something more than the IS350 engine because it's a new generation.

Does 530i have more power than 330i or 130i?
Now as to the GS-F... maybe it is coming.

Lexus Champion
When the current IS first came out it was sporting Lexus' new 3.5L V6, which eventually found its way into the GS as well. This time it seems the V6 will be carry over, and that begs the question of when new powertrains will come.
The quoted dimensions are 4590 × 1795 × 1430mm, the current IS' dimensions are 4,580 x 1,800 x 1,415mm for LxWxH. According to that the new IS will grow a bit longer (probably to help with the poor rear leg room in the current model), remain roughly the same width (I can't imagine it will get narrower) and grow a bit taller.

exclusive matchup
iTrader: (4)
although i also have to say, 6 speed with 4gs and 8 speed with 3is, that doesn't sound right. 8 speed tranny is more expensive i believe (forgot where i read that)
and if they seriously have a sedan, wagon, and convertible, but not a proper simple hard top coupe....

well, iirc, the 3gs started with gs300 (at least here in the US), while 2is debut soon after with is350 right?

I recently had some good time with a limited edition IS C and there are lots of opportunities for the IS. What I do know is its aged pretty well and to be quite honest the strong point continues to be the 3.5 V-6. I still don't find it needing more power. I felt the tranny was fine. I felt these are the strong points.
What I would like to see is more room, better materials used inside, a true coupe and better steering and seats. After driving the CT extensively it was CLEAR to me the CT had the better steering, seats and driving position for the sportier feel.
Thus I can only imagine the CT interior, steering inside the 2014 or so IS. Should be a huge winner.
FYI the 3.5 is a engine that got 0-60 in 4.9 to 5.2 or so in most reviews in the IS 350. The engine is fine for a few more years. It also gets among the best MPG. Lexus has always been a thinking mans vehicle, not one for people drawn to marketing "OMG MY CAR HAS MORE HP (yet is slower ). What I think is more of a logical concern is Lexus pretty much eliminating engine tuning on new models. This is an issue as enthusiasts that want more power have to buy an IS F and can't tune the regular IS's. That is one big plus for German cars.
Onto the IS 250, the biggest complainers seem to be internetz thugz who won't buy a IS or Lexus anyway. I don't see them *****ing about 200hp in the A4, 200hp in the TSX etc etc. They would die in the 150hp 4 cylinder cars of Europe I'm really lost as it seems people pick and choose and move the bar in regards to slow when Lexus is involved. The IS 250 has ample power. Would a 245 IS 250 be great? Yes. If anything my concern is with the issues the 2.5 is having compared to the 3.5 in regards to reliability. Fix that.
As for the coupe with Audi naming the A4 coupe the A5, the 3 series coupe becoming the 4 series, etc etc maybe Lexus will make a new name for the coupe instead of calling it the IS coupe.

I had CT200h for loaner and it is a nice car. Its seating position and seat are a lot better than our IS. I don't have enough support from driver seat bottom and for some reason, i think seat bottom is short for enough thigh support.

What no IS-F?
I wonder if Lexus is considering staying away from future F-products until the market shows if there is a business case. It seems strange the GS gets the 3.5 with a 6AT while the 3.5 IS gets an 8AT. This info makes me think the article is bogus.

Lexus wouldn't need to follow the crowed with a forced induction 4-cylinder but something needs to happen. 8-speed auto is needed for this segment as the 3-series and A4 have one not to mention new comers like the ATS(not in it's first model year but a confirmed future powertrain addition) and the future 3-series Hyundai competitor.
