Audi confirms 3.0T powertrain for 2013 A8 in U.S.
Audi has confirmed at the Detroit Auto Show that its 2013 A8 will be available with a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 in the United States. Delivering 333 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque through all four wheels, the A8 3.0T will be sold in both both short- and long-wheelbase formats and it will be one of a growing crop of vehicles sold in North America with start/stop technology. The move follows confirmation that Audi will also market its flagship luxury sedan with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder TDI diesel engine.
Both powertrain combinations have already been offered in the A8 in other markets, and both engines have already been featured in other Audi models sold here, but these powerplants will be the first six-cylinder A8s sold in North America. Audi has not released official fuel economy estimates for these new powertrains.

+1 1sicklex may not approve. in his eyes it has to have v8 with a million horse power in order to be considered executive. I believe that they don't need more then 250hp, just enough to get them moving off the line.

This is the future with strict gov regulations and high gas prices. More and More downsized engines being offered and larger engines being phased out in some cases. It is not totally such a bad thing though, modern V-6s offer plenty of power at 300hp or more range and will be able to move larger luxury cars very well. It is not like they are asking a 200hp V6 to move a luxury flagship,. it was not all that long ago that 300hp was around what most V8s were making.
The 3.0 T in the new Audi S4 is quicker then the last V8 S4 and gets much better fuel economy. While I don't mind V6s making their way into or back into higher end cars as entry level options I do have a problem when the choice of a V8, V10, or V12 in some segments disappears.

If the LS had a V-6 or I-4 the internetz would proclaim it a giant corolla. Euro Double standard is showing.
Don't put words in my mouth either. I said the 740 was a brilliant move and I think a LS 450h would be brilliant..
Grow up.

Anyways, yes the giant corolla (although the new camry took that title LOL) epidemic would definetely hit the web and I would be one of those supporters if that ever happened. There's something you shouldn't do like light a fart on fire which is the same thing as putting a v6 in big luxo sedan like the A8 or the LS...I mean that's like telling me to drink monster instead of redbull because it's cheaper and has the same effects, but it just tastes way ****tier...IMHO

Have you guys driven a car with the supercharged V6? It's a great engine and makes plenty of torque down low where 90% of your driving takes place. It'll work just fine in the A8.

325 lb-ft is not good for luxury sedans in this day and age. The LS430 made that much and it's 6 years gone.
The A8's saving grace may only be to have a flat curve due to FI, but we'll have to see it. Certainly the TDI will have boatloads of torque.

For flagship luxury sedans, torque is the much more important figure because higher torque allows for lower rpms meaning much smoother acceleration and shifts. This is why higher displacement is important, because that usually dictates torque. Having more cylinders relative to displacement usually makes for smoother firing as well. So there are lots of reasons to want a V8.

That's exactly what would happen. As for the 3.0T, it matches the performance of the 550i and E550 in the A6 but with better fuel economy. Granted the A6 is notably lighter than both those cars, as is the A8 relative to its competition.
