Think it'll stack up against the 3 series, IS, A4, C class?

They said they tested it on the nurburgring so hopefully that means it actually handles well.

The obsession with the "Ring" must end. For all out sports cars, fine. For cars that will be aimed at 30 years olds but bought by 70 years olds, they are doing it wrong.

Seems nice, like a 1st gen CTS touched up. Nice RWD proportions too. Not sure about the interior yet.

Looks good

But too similar to the CTS in the rear IMO.

Gunning for the 3! Good job Caddy, and those powerplant options are excellent. The fact that the ATS tips the scales a little over 3400lbs is impressive. An ATS-V down the road is probably likely too

Power is critical in this segment, and the ATS features three engine offerings. The base model uses GM's all-new 2.5-liter four-cylinder generating an estimated 200 horsepower at 6,200 RPM and 188 pound-feet of torque at 4,500 PRM. The up-level 2.0-liter turbo four might be the most interesting choice, with 270 horses at 5,300 RPM and 260 lb-ft at just 2,400 RPM. The top engine is the familiar 3.6-liter V6, which offers 318 horsepower at 6,800 RPM and 267 pound-feet of torque at 4,900 RPM. The 3.6 and the 2.5 run on regular unleaded, premium is recommended for the 2.0 turbo. Transmission choices include a Tremec M3L TR3160 six-speed manual and a Hydra-Matic 6L45 six-speed automatic.

Nothing too exciting. We've seen that same back end since the early 2000's. Yawn actually on the whole thing... it's kind of plain all around, including the Buick center stack interior.

Nice work with the weight. Also nice to see 3 engine offerings, the base 4 cylinder will keep the price down. Nice that the big V-6 is there with 318hp and uses regular gas.

I don't expect BMW or anyone to be shaking in their boots but this seems to be a solid baby Caddy so far. I just hope it doesn't hurt CTS sales more than anything. The fact of the matter is all these new vehicles come out, the internetz scream how they are some "killer" and they only seem to hurt sales from cars within the brand, rarely hurting the competition.

Seems like a solid effort and it is RWD.

Absolutely . A diverse offering of engines helps the price point, and caters to consumers taste (performance to economy) got the bases covered. Also good to see naturally aspirated powertrains being offered that run off regular gas. I wouldn't be surprised to see an ATS-V with a twinturbo'ed 5.5L V8, naturally aspirated 6.2L V8, or a supercharged or turbocharged six cylinder in a year or two.

I don't see BMW trembling, but this will be a solid effort from Caddy (wonder if it has the magnetic ride control). The ATS is getting a lot of heat from its styling, but its whats underneath that will truly make the difference. Like I mentioned earlier, you start with that 3400lb curb weight which is pretty low for this segment, a 1inch wider track than the 3 series, great engine selection, and 6 speed manual or autos. A great start for Caddy (hopefully the next manufacturer joining this segment is Jag and its baby 3 series fighter). I do think this will cannibalize some some CTS sales, but this will allow the ATS to transition to its role of entry level sport luxury, while allowing the CTS to grow its luxury arm. The beauty of a full line-up!

Gotta love RWD!!

I love it. The design is way better than the new 3 series, which I actually like in the M Sport trim. Very, very nice interior too. Cadillac is stepping it up!

Looks a bit better in motion than it does in pics...that's about all I have to say for now.

Can anyone else see "Camry" resemblance in the side profile?
