Default Cadillac's New 2016 ATS-V Sedan and Coupe with 455HP [w/Video]

Click here to view photos and video

These are the high-po models with which Cadillac will try to compete with BMW's M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe: the all-new 2016 ATS-V Sedan and Coupe, which were officially presented on the eve of the LA Auto Show.

The two ATS-V sports cars arrive next spring, powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 churning out 455hp and (339 kW) and 445 lb-ft (603 Nm) of torque that enables a 0-60mph run in 3.9 seconds and a top speed in excess of 185mph (298km/h).

Power is transferred to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox with Active Rev Match, no-lift shifting and launch control, or a paddle-shift 8-speed automatic featuring launch control and Performance Algorithm Shift.

Torsional rigidity up 25 percent over the regular ATS, with Cadillac making changes to the chassis with a revised and lowered suspension and wider front and rear tracks.

The V models get a standard electronic limited-slip differential, a high-performance Brembo brake system, a third-generation Magnetic Ride Control and Performance Traction Management. Five different driver-selectable modes will help you adjust the car's handling properties to your needs and wants.

In regards to the design, we'll stick to our original assessment that the exterior aero modifications look more like an afterthought of the SEMA-style. Inside, the available 16-way-adjustable RECARO performance front seats stand out.

Cadillac will offer Carbon Fiber and Track packages with the former including a more aggressive front splitter, hood vent trim and rear diffuser, along with composite rocker extensions and a taller, body-color rear spoiler. The Track package adds a Performance Data Recorder and a low-mass battery, while deleting "the standard floor mats and tire inflator kit to save weight" – Cadillac's words, not ours.

Default New 2016 Cadillac ATS-V Priced from $61,460*

Cadillac has started accepting orders for their new ATS-V Sedan and Coupe performance models ahead of their market launch in the US in late spring.

Prices start from $61,460 for the ATS-V sedan and $63,660 for ATS-V Coupe, which exclude "tax, title, license, dealer fees and optional equipment".

Those MSRPs place Cadillac's models directly against BMW's 425hp M3 sedan and M4 Coupe that are priced at $62,000 and $64,200 respectively, sans a $950 destination and handling fee. Audi doesn't offer an RS4 sedan, only an Avant in Europe, but it does sell the 450hp RS5 Coupe in the US for $70,900 plus destination.

Cadillac's AST-V sports cars share a new twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 churning out 455hp and (339 kW) and 445 lb-ft (603 Nm) of torque paired to a six-speed manual with Active Rev Match, no-lift shifting and launch control or optionally, an eight-speed automatic with launch control. The manufacturer quotes a 0-60mph (96km/h) sprint in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 189mph (304 km/h).

Among other features, the new ATS-Vs get standard Brembo high-performance brake system, Magnetic Ride Control and carbon fiber hood, while on the options list, you'll find a more aggressive looking and downforce-generating track aerodynamics package and a Performance Data Recorder like the one offered on the Corvette (…with some amusing results).

Default Cadillac ATS Coupe Review Doesn’t Really Make You Want One

In spite of its great, sharp styling, luxurious-looking interior, decent engines and spirited drive, we’re still not won over by Cadillac’s new ATS Coupe. The car was recently reviewed by CNET and after seeing it we didn’t know if we wanted one or not.

If you buy it for the way it looks alone, then you are definitely on to a winner, as it’s much classier (boring) than the Lexus RC, yet a lot more distinctive than a BMW 4-Series, all while making the Audi A5 look older than it is.

I think it’s the prettiest looking of all the coupes in this size bracket, but according to this tech-minded review, it’s actually far from perfect. The ingredients seem to be all there, but Cadillac seems to have misjudged some of the quantities.

With diesel engine options and a not unreasonable price, this could be a hit in Europe, as everybody wants the American styling, but nobody wants the fuel bills or higher costs associated with bigger displacement engines. As they're selling it though, it's as if they want to make it unsuccessful by not offering any...

Honestly, I think the non-V model of the ATS and CTS look 1000x times better than this. That BBQ mesh that they use look so cheap compared to the regular grille.

Personally no, I think it looks muscular.

Would they hurry up with M4 vs RS5 vs RC F vs ATS-V Coupe already !

The Cadillac line aside from the smooth riding and bling bling styled Escalde all look bland. I do like the XTS a lot, I think the XTS is GMs best product.

Not a bit. In fact, I think the exterior looks better than the new Mercedes C-class that the auto press is going Ga-Ga on, though the Merc gives it a good run for the money inside.

Default Cadillac Unleashes its ATS-V in Geneva

Click here to view more photos

Cadillac’s booth at the Geneva Motor Show is hosting the European debuts of the all-new ATS-V in sedan and coupe forms.

The ATS-V will arrive in Europe this fall and will be priced from €74,900 for the Sedan and €77,500 for the Coupe (prices in Germany). The ATS-V is powered by a 3.6-liter twin-turbo engine with more than 450PS and 600Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed paddle shift automatic transmission with launch control.

This allows it to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in close to 4 seconds and to reach a top speed of 299 km/h.

Besides the powerful engine, the ATS-V also benefits from higher rate springs, a third-generation Magnetic Ride Control and Performance Traction Management system, as well as multi-piston Brembo calipers front and rear.

Default 2016 Cadillac ATS-V Actually Makes 464 HP

It turns out the Cadillac ATS-V makes more power than initially announced.

The hot-version of the ATS makes 464 hp thanks to its twin-turbo V6 engine, 9 more ponies than the initial estimate of 455 hp. Torque output remains the same at 445 lb-ft.

Thanks to the jump in power, the car’s statistics have also changed. The sprint to 60 mph now happens in 3.8 seconds as opposed to 3.9, while top speed has improved to 189 mph, compared to the previously announced 185 mph limit. These stats apply to cars equipped with the eight-speed automatic transmission rather than the available six-speed manual.

All of the other elements are in place to make this a great trackday car, namely Brembo brakes, lightweight 18-inch alloy wheels, adaptive suspension, Michelin Pilot Super Sport and more.

Consumers also seem to be going ga-ga over the C Class vs. ATS. Sales in the US thru February: C Class, 13,306 and ATS, 3,785.

No doubt in my mind the ATS-V will be the star athlete in its segment. I also have no doubt in my mind the M3/4 and C63 will outsell it.
