Hennessey rolls out 800-hp twin-turbo Jeep Grand Cherokee

Eight-hundred horsepower. 0-60 in 3.1 seconds. $235,000. Given those numbers, you'd think we were talking about a supercar, right? Well we are, if by supercar you mean something with otherworldly performance capabilities. But this is no two-seat roadster. This is a Jeep.

To be more specific, this is the latest Hennessey HPE800 Twin Turbo, a new rocket sled based on the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8. That model usually packs a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 – which is already big by any measure – but Hennessey's bored it out to a nice round 7.0 liters and bolted a pair of turbochargers to it.

Along with the substantial engine mods, the HPE800 also gets an upgraded transmission and torque converted (it is a conventional automatic, after all), plus 20-inch wheels on a lowered suspension with 15.1-inch Brembo brakes, and a reworked fascia with a carbon fiber splitter up front.

Of course, if the high price of entry doesn't keep out the riffraff, the limited quantities being built surely will: only 24 examples are earmarked for production, so even at the pace at which these beasts will cover all manner of terrain, they're not likely to run into one another once they've left the factory.

Who Needs Reindeer When You Have an 800 HP Twin Turbo Sleigh?
Introducing the 2013 HPE800 Twin Turbo Jeep by Hennessey Performance

Hennessey Performance (HPE) is well known for taking fast cars, trucks and SUV's and making them faster. The company will be offering their HPE800 Twin Turbo Jeep for 2013. Based on the new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, the crew from HPE takes the factory 6.4 L Hemi and increases displacement to 7.0 L (426 cubic inches) while adding a twin turbo forced induction system. The resulting 805 bhp and 823 lb-ft of torque will be enough to propel the HPE800 from 0-60 mph in 3.1 seconds.

Additional modifications include an upgraded transmission system and torque converter upgrade, 15.1 inch Brembo brakes front and rear, a lowered sport suspension system, lighter alloy wheels, carbon fiber front splitter and a custom leather interior with Alcantara steering wheel.

"We've built dozens of 600-800 hp Jeep SRT8s over the past five years, so we have an existing client base who will want to upgrade the new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 to an even higher level", said company founder and president, John Hennessey. "This vehicle is designed for the performance minded driver who lives in Aspen or Moscow and wants to be the fastest in all weather conditions."

HPE will limit production at just 24 examples with pricing starting at $235,000.

You'd have to be retarded to spend that on a JEEP.

They are over charging it too much. 150k+ for the mods? Come on.
On the side note, the wheels look 22' than 20'.

Weren't there allegations and criticisms in the past regarding the way Hennessey does business?

^^^Yes I think the Internet blew it out of proportion though. He posts on supraforums and all the TX2K events are held at his track and he's usually there. I met him back in 09 and everyone there got along with him.

Seems way within reason of an asking price, I know a few guys who have spent in excess of 100k building cars and they are still not done, considering what needs to be upgraded.

I'd think about it if it was $100,000 or less. For that money I'll stick with a Lamborghini or a Ferrari.

Looks great, but even if i had the cash for it i wouldn't fork it over for that. Plus i can't think of a reason to have an 800hp SUV? Lol
