Default Lexus LF-LC Production Model Delayed

In other Toyota coupe news, it appears it may be awhile before we see another sporty two-door from Lexus. Rumors have swirled since the Lexus LF-LC's 2012 Detroit debut that a production model was greenlit. But even if the luxury sports coupe was given the go-ahead, it won't hit the market for at least two years unless production is expedited, our source tells us. We last heard that the car was a go, and that it would receive several LFA design cues. Whether the production version retains the concept's hybrid drivetrain remains to be seen.

I think we were always hearing ~2017 for production, so this is consistent.

Is ok, take your time Lexus, I need time to save up for a $120k coupe anyway. Just make sure to make it good, twin turbo V8 with 500+ hp please.

this is why i don't like concept vehicles. this thread started in 2011, and now the car is not likely to be out until 2017...

+1
Toyota started conceptualization of this essentially in May 2010, as SC430 production came to a close. That will be 7 years time by 2017. It is edging towards the length of time invested in the LFA between February 2000 and mid-late 2010.

I am appalled that they have barely began to build 1:1 design models of the SC (or have not yet), when that should've been done by last year or within 6-9 months of green-lighting it. It's not as if the 1-2 year concept design phase is needed anymore, since the LF-LC covered that between 2010-2011. Slows down the component packaging process, if a body design is not even approved. It usually takes 3-4 years between the first 1:1 models and model launch, so that alone makes me wonder why they/they are barely reached/reaching this point.

I figure it's because Toyota may feel they want to focus on the next LS a bit earlier, as the most urgent task at hand in the upper level. Seeing how Calty designed the FT-1 as well and spent a similar unusually long project period of 18 months, the production FT-1/"Supra" will likely not arrive until 2018-19 at this rate.

Agreed. Gotta save up. I want this. I will either quietly wait it out with my GS or enjoy an RC in between.

Lexus LF-LC concept to spawn production coupé

Bosses sign off radical LF-LC concept car for production, with the model set to be launched in 2016

Lexus’s LF-LC 2+2 coupé concept will make production in 2016 as a new flagship model for Toyota’s luxury arm.

Lexus Europe’s vice-president Alain Uyttenhoven revealed to Autocar on the launch of the new NX crossover that a production version of the LF-LC was due to make production as part of Lexus’s plan to launch a new model every year up to 2020.

The dramatic LF-LC was first seen at the Detroit motor show in 2012, and Uyttenhoven said that company boss Akio Toyoda “doesn’t want the production car to look any different from the concept”. Uyttenhoven said that the LF-LC concept was anything between 90 and 100 per cent representative of the production car, which he has seen.

Previous speculation has suggested that the production LF-LC would take the LC badge for production, and would be based on a shortened version of the LS’s underpinnings.

“The production LF-LC will not be huge volume [car] for Lexus, but it will bring huge emotion,” said Uyttenhoven. “Every year there will be a new model for Lexus, either a volume car like the NX or a model to boost brand image [like the LF-LC].”

With the NX planned to be introduced as 2014’s new car, next year will see the introduction of the RC coupé, including the range-topping 450bhp 5.0-litre V8-powered RC-F version.

The RC-F will be the first version of the RC to be sold in Europe, with an initial run of 500 units planned. Uyttenhoven revealed that one third of that allocation was destined for the UK.

Further variants of the RC are planned, including a staple RC300h hybrid version and a RC200t version that uses the new 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine found in the NX.

That new engine is also destined for the IS and GS, Uyttenhoven revealed.

The plan to introduce one new model a year is part of Lexus’s wider aspirations to double its European sales to 100,000 units by 2020. In the first six months of this year, it sold 24,586 cars in Europe.

^ nice wishing but it would not look 90% as the concept I can bet 100% on that

Grill will get a lot wider to match new models and headlights will most likely have closed cluster so they will change significantly.

Default Lexus confirms plans to roll out LF-LC production version

Coming in the next six years

The Lexus LF-LC concept will eventually receive a production version according to the company's vice-president in Europe, Alain Uyttenhoven.

It was January 2012 when Lexus introduced the stunning LF-LC concept at NAIAS and several months later they brought a blue version to AIMS. Numerous rumors have emerged about a potential production version and now we have confirmation from Lexus Europe's vice-president Alain Uyttenhoven.

He did not specify an exact launch date but it will be out in the next six years part of Lexus' plan to introduce a new model on an annual basis until 2020. Official details about the model are not available but Uyttenhoven did say the LF-LC production version will be a low-volume model set to "bring huge emotion."

It is believed the car will be sold with the "SC" nameplate and is tipped for a 2017 launch with an RC F-sourced V8 5.0-liter rated at 482 PS (355 kW). The engine will allegedly work with a 10-speed automatic transmission and Lexus is also planning a 506 PS hybrid variant. The resurrected SC is expected to adopt an aluminum and carbon fiber construction which combined with the powerful engine will provide a performance that "surpasses the RC-F Coupe", all wrapped in "an unbelievably gorgeous fit-out."

The third generation SC should be unveiled at the 2017 NAIAS before going on sale the same year.

seems speculative from the article, based on nx in 14 and rc in 15, concluding because a new model each year until 2020 that the lf-lc must come next in 16.

either way, it will be an awesome addition to lexus' line-up.

So positive.

FYI, it never was expected to make production, it debuted as a styling exercise and to showcase a possible future power train. When it debuted and public reaction was overwhelmingly positive only then did Lexus evaluate building it and eventually green lighting it.

So please, understand the situation before jumping to conclusions and making it seem like Lexus is 100 years behind.

Seems on the internet people want cars to debut in a year after its seen.
