Mercedes-Benz killing Maybach in 2013, replaced by S600 Pullman

According to an unnamed Mercedes-Benz source speaking with Autoweek, the German automaker is killing off its Maybach line in 2013.

The unsurprising news comes after the brand was resurrected in 2002, but failed to meet sales expectations with its two core models, the Maybach 57 and 62. Further solidifying its fate, a deal for Aston Martin to aid in the development of future Maybachs fell through earlier this year.

According to the Autoweek's insider, the plan is to continue to sell both Maybach models through the end of 2013, after which the fifth-generation S-Class will go on sale. When that happens, three new variants of the S-Class will be available, including an all-new, range-topping S600 that brings back the Pullman moniker and may be better suited to competing with the likes of Bentley and Rolls-Royce.

The Maybach hasnt received any attention from mercedes in a long time. Stale styling, its like they dont even care about the brand. I say let it go.

Funny thing I had a dream about the Maybach last night. I can't remember why, but it was for sure before reading this article.

They didn't design it exclusively enough. For the price people will get a RR. Can't wait to see the S600 Pullman.

So they are killing the old and well known brand for a pullman benz. I guess it works. The pullman was the ultimate back in the day. Now it will be the ultimate today. In the end the Maybach looked like a pullman. Good business decision

They should sell off the Maybach brand and let someone do something interesting with it instead of a lightly modifies S class. Maybe Cadillac can buy it and make all those cool concepts and name them Maybachs.

I think killing maybach and producing super S class sedans is not going to help them compete with Rolls Royce and Bentley.

Are you 12? Have you ever had the privilege to be driven in a Maybach? If not you have nothing to say. The Maybach easily out performed (in every aspect) than what ever RR and Bentley have. From the engines to the ride to the sophistication of the Vehicle.

The Pullman, back in the day, was THE ride. More expensive and more exclusive than any RR at the time. Every single head of state around the world was driven around in those (outside the US and UK), I personally can't wait to see what they do. I do hope they produce something spectacular. I'm pretty sure the S Pullman moniker is more well known around the world than the Maybach name was known at the time of its reintroduction.

Are you 13? Have you been driven in one? I have sat in one and also sat in a Phantom and the new Mulsanne. The Maybach's rear seatsmight be nice, but looking into the front area looks just like a S Class, and the styling is just plain, that was my argument. People dont buy these cars to drive 100 miles a hour anyways.
