Audi's performance offerings always seem a step behind MB and BMW.

They released cars like the S4 and S5 (which really couldn't match the M3 and M6) only to re-release a higher performance version in the RS4 and RS5..........odd IMO.

I always loved Audi's (I used to own a B5 S4), and I'd kill for a RS6 Avant.

doesn't matter though. the absolute number to me is one thing, but i put more note that it's faster than the e63 and cls63. that's quite impressive. given how the amg has been total rockets over the past years

i think it was spwolf who explained before and i think it makes sense

a4 and a5 they are just the basic engine setup 2.0t, which is just like 328 or c300

s4 and s5 are slightly boosted version, i think now it's 3.0t? that's against 335 and c350

then if they actually do it, it's the rs4 and rs5, which will be against m3 and c63

the s line doesn't come close to touching m and amg

I discussed this topic before

Now that I think about it, I think Audi S is a little higher then 335i and C350, maybe is equal to like a fully loaded 335is M-Sport, but definitely not anywhere close to a M or AMG.

I think Audi usually play in a slightly higher ground then MB and BMW. Just look at the RS6 that came out at 2008, 5.0L V10 twin turbo with 571 hp........that was almost 4 years ago, MB and BMW is just now having twin turbo V8 with ~550 hp in their E63 and M5.

damn, sorry about that jeff....

on the audi approach, hard to think i guess. i really don't see the s4 being superior to the 335i, back a few years you can talk about the v8 choice, but it's more of a form of power i guess

Diesel and gas is apple to orange

Diesel don't even have spark plugs.............you might want to know the topic before you go compare them.

Other than the GTR there really aren't many stock cars under 100k that can pull off sub 3 second 0-60 times. This is an amazing achievement. Maybe the M5 will be my next ride. For performance like that I would walk on the wild side

No apology, I am sure I wasn't the only one that discussed this topic.

I feel the S4 offer slightly more then a 335i, just a hair though, not by much. I feel the S4's interior is slightly more exquisite, it launch harder off the line.....no doubt is due to the 4WD and DSG, it is a bigger car that looks more substantial, it came stock with more hp (333 vs. 300).

That is comparing a base S4 to a base 335i, since a base S4 is a lot more loaded then a base 335i, a base 335i come with almost nothing. Now if you go to a 335is, fully load it up with M-Sport package and every single options, that would be pretty much equal to a fully loaded S4. Almost the same price too.

Now look at the RS4 vs. M3, same thing again, more exquisite interior, a little more power (450 vs. 420), is bigger and look more aggressive, more expensive......etc.

Audi just want to one up MB and BMW at all times I guess. Different companies just play the game a little differently.

yes, i see your point now and i tend to agree. though throw in the c63 with 450hp it matches up with rs4 right the way. rs4 started out with more power, but i think that's coz' their product cycle is so weird and it's like right in the middle of competitors

You are correct, GTR is the only "normal" car that you can use everyday that does sub 3 secs under $100k. The next one is the $150k 911 Turbo. I said "normal" because a stock Arial Atom can do it too for under $100k, but that aren't a normal car.

It is getting nuts, but then the twin turbo E63 offer identical performance, so the M5 is not the only one getting that crazy. I also feel that my next vehicle purchase would probably not from an asian brands

Yes the GTR broke 3 secs, the 2012 got A LOT quicker then the 2009 version. Various trust worthy test report are coming in at 2.8-2.9 bone stock.

2009 was 3.3~3.5.

you don't know because it wasn't sold in the U.S. It was determined to be too hardcore for the Americans............J/K, I am sure is because it is too expensive MSRP was like $130k~$150k.

Bugatti, 911 Turbo S, and GTR are the 3 stock cars than broke 3 sec.
Bugatti Super Sport is 2.52sec to 60!

Man, Jeff, you beat me to it.
