My client just bought the first Avalon in town, I had a chance to take a close look of the car. In person it looks smaller than the last gen, but inside is very roomy and modern. Much much better quality than the new Camry.
And I finally saw how to mount the front plate!

officially it is called perception of quality but at the same time, higher class cars usually have better build quality, material quality, component quality, etc, etc :-)

Quality is as much about customer perception as it is about the absolute number of "defects".

Test drove a new Avalon last night and bought it. The sales person claimed they sold 2 of old model for the entire last year, and sold 3 of 2013 model just this week.

Congratulations. Enjoy it. But take it easy on the engine/transmission and brakes for at least the first 500-1000 miles. Today's new-car break-in periods, because of more precise and advanced manufacturing methods, are not as critical as in the past, but it's still a good idea not to stress the components for at least several hundred miles.
BTW, I've test-driven two new Avalons (gas and hybrid) and a new non-hybrid Lexus ES, and, given the choice, I'd take either Avalon over the ES, though I wasn't totally happy with the new suspensions/tires on either car.
I'm not claiming that your particular salesperson was dishonest, but don't necessarily believe everythng salespeople tell you. Though they are generally more honest now than in the past (and there are indeed some excellent ones), as a group, they didn't get the notorious reputation they have for nothing.

I personally would trade in my LS 430 for a nice Black avalon limited model, everytime I see one, I have to turn my head, Really a beautiful elegant looking car.
