2012 Peugeot 508 RXH diesel hybrid to debut at Frankfurt Motor Show

The 2012 Peugeot 508 RXH diesel-electric hybrid has been officially revealed ahead of its world debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

Featuring all-wheel drive via Peugeot's HYbrid4 technology, the 508 RXH comes packing the automaker's 2.0-liter HDi diesel engine with a 28-kilowatt (38-horsepower) electric motor. This system, identical to the one found in Peugeot's 3008 Hybrid4, makes the 508 RXH a so-called "through-the-road" hybrid vehicle. Combined, the diesel-electric hybrid drive unit delivers up to 147 kW (200 horsepower) and cranks out 332 pound-feet of torque.

The 508 RXH can operate in electric-only mode, though Peugeot has not revealed the vehicle's "zero-emissions" range. The French automaker say the 508 RXH consumes less than 4.2 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers (56 miles per gallon U.S.) in the combined cycle and emits 109 g/km of CO2.

The 508 RXH will go on sale in spring of 2012. Peugeot says it will extend its HYbrid4 technology to additional vehicles in the near future. Learn more in the official press release after the jump.

i guess the way to overcome issues of complicated transmissions, you make hybrid that has different powertrain at different ends of car, and they are not connected :-)

@spwolf

I remember what you mentioned in another forum

If Hummer H3s can fit in Eastern Europe, then obviously the 508 will be a piece of cake. Besides it's not as if it's a big car as it's more of a mid-size/executive/D-segment vehicle).

Btw,
That is definitely the BEST Peugeot design I've ever seen in my life. They are really onto something.

Seriously, it's as if the French are on a roll. I mean just look at the DS5 from Citroen

PSA Peugeot Citroen is definitely on a roll. These newer French cars ALL look fantastic

Is this the first diesel hybrid?

Those numbers (200 hp, 332 ft/lbs, and 56 mpg) are all very enticing figures...

The French have always been daring with their designs. That's one of the reasons I find myself drawn to their brands, especially Citroen.

I can't wait to sell my somewhat bland BMW 1er and replace it with a stylish Citroen C4 diesel. What a gorgeous car inside and out.

It's also spacious inside and very comfortable (it's a Citroen!). It's perfect for a long-distance cruiser (far better than the BMW, which is very uncomfortable).

I'm actually looking into testing one in the upcoming weeks.

Put together Toyota reliability and French Design and there would be no reason to buy any other cars.

In that first picture the first thing that came to mind was "Maxima". I know Nissan and Renault are together, but did Nissan do anything with Peugeot?

that was a joke, but they are an size bigger than competition, just probably to be a little bit different... just about size of my GS, which isnt that easy to work with in large city.

as to the DS, looks good but as discussed there, DS4 is already priced "competitive" with 1 series and A3, which is a big mistake.
