First Drive: 2012 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec

That's because Genesis 5.0 isn't intended to be used as a sportscar. It's a luxury concentrated vehicle with added performance.
That means expect to see 4.7~ 4.8 sec from Road & Track. Sounds like Hyundai did tighten up the gearing for low speed (0-80) acceleration as well.
Nope. Whoever reviewed this vehicle is the newb, meaning not a true professional. 0-60 doesn't mean jack as the gearing affects critically in all range of speeds, meaning 0-to-150+ mph. Where the V8 (4.6 & 5.0) Genesis shines is in the mid and top end! not the ghey **** 0-60 accelerations that sissies like. I want a car that has very good pull from 120~ 155 mph, not interested in 0-60's...
The reviewer is definitely the newb. You are expecting a Ferrari 456 Italia? What the hell?????? This is no Lamborghini Gallardo. It's not mean to run LOUD. It's made for LUXURY. Luxury cars run silent with smooth acceleration. Just for reference the V8 4.6 Genesis wipes the bathroom floor with Ford Taurus SHO from 80~ top speed. With tighter gearing the 5.0 R-spec has with increased HP and TQ the high speed accelertion will be very nasty fast. Look out IS-F owners....
You ****** [very bad word] (directed to the reviewer, not the OP), the V6 version gearing is tuned for LOW SPEED acceleration! 0-60 is what the V6 models are aimed at! They run out of steam at higher speeds. The V8 4.6 version is exact opposite, and the R-spec 5.0 has covered both areas due to extra gear spaces.
Newbs only care 0-60's while the pro's (like me) care 80~ 155. This is why Mercedes AMG and BMW M class vehicles do so well in this regard, M5 and IS-F especially....

this is not an performance car, just bigger engine dropped into same car, which is what neither autoblog or car and driver liked.

I was at the local Hyundai store last Sunday. They had a 2012 Genesis sedan 3.8 with premium and tech packages. The msrp was $43,000, but they tacked on $2995 for "additional market adjustment". Interestingly enough, they still had six 2011 Genesis sedans in stock, whereas they only had one Tucson left, and zero Elantras (all sold out).

There are plenty of used sport sedans with ultra-low miles that I could buy. One of my employees and I were talking about Hyundai as a brand, and what they have done wrong when introducing luxury vehicles into a previous market of box cars. We both agreed that Hyundai should have pulled a 'Toyota' several years ago, introducing a totally new brand, with a more appealing brand name and logo. Many people don't even know how to properly pronounce that brand.

The Genesis sedan came to the US in August 2008. It's sales have increased for 23 consecutive months *(see link below for source). Most cars sell well in their first year and then gradually decline after that. So the American public is starting to warm up to the idea of a premium Hyundai. Moreover, the Genesis sedan currently has a 10% market share in the Southeast region among mid-size luxury sedans. Not too shabby considering the competition. The lack of AWD is the reason why this car hasn't sold in bigger number in the Midwest and New England.

the more i look at this pic, the more awesome it is. the wheel fitment, the fact the trunk doesn't look 'high' - it kinda reminds me of a stretched 335i.
