I've seen racing events such as drifting, rallying, Formula racing (incl. F1, F3, etc.), touring car championship, GT racing, go karting, Moto GP Australia V8 Supercars and others..........and they've all been entertaining.

However, I'd have to say that the most boring and probably the worst motorsport I've ever seen is NASCAR.

Just take a look at it. More than 90% of Sprint Cup races are only held on oval tracks. Do you think that real motorsport racing and driving only revolves around the same track layout again and again? The same **** all over again????

Where's the real racing skill and technique in that?

There are even many jokes about the NASCAR acronym. It makes sense because it's simply a:
Non Athletic Sport Concentrated Around Rednecks

I guess only them rednecks and hillbillies find excitement with cars going around and around for hundreds of times throughout the entire day

Where's the variety and diversity? Are hundreds of laps confined in a oval track even considered as a credible display of racing skill and technique?

With that said, once Circuit of the Americas (in Austin, Texas) gets up and running by next year, then it adds another option for American motorsport fans in having access to another alternative away from boring and redundant oval track racing that NASCAR does more than 90% of the time.

If you want real racing, look into other motorsports such as Australia V8 Supercars and look for Jamie Whincup. Now that's what racing skill and technique is all about. Variety and technicality. Not some redundant oval track bull****.

I have to strongly disagree. There is NOTHING boring about being inches away from someone's bumper at almost 200 MPH (on the super-high-speed tracks like Daytona), buffeting and drafting in wind turbulence, or running through the banks/turns at 3 or even 4 abreast, where even one small tap (as Tony Stewart has shown so many times) could mean a spin-out leading to a crash involving literally dozens of cars. If you think I'm kidding, try it yourself sometime. Driving on NASCAR tracks (and even watching it) has to be one of the most hair-raising experiences in motorsports. That's one reason why it is so popular in America.

I've heard there will also be an American version of the German DTM series that will join under the umbrella of the Grand Am series which will be a reall great series to watch. Would love to see this at tracks like Watkins Glen, VIR, Laguna Seca etc.

Ok, Not arguing about the skill level to be at the top of any particular race series, i think it goes without saying that it takes skill but Geez, Let the average person try their hand at any of the top pro level race series and of course it's gonna be more than a hair raising experience.

I understand the nuances of Nascar and follow it like F1 and most other top series but i also just happen to agree that it is boring at most times to watch. The cars are also easier to catch (not underestimating the skills needed) But it's alot harder to control a high downforce level car once it comes out from under you and downforce is removed.

The reason Nascar is so popular in america I believe for the 'average' fan has to do with the stadium like atmosphere where you can follow the cars and racing from any seating position unlike in your usual road race.

i personally don't enjoy nascar, but it is a widely popular series with a huge fanbase. to knock its success is a little ignorant based on the types of people who enjoy it. i think the best way to sum it up is that all these drivers possess enormous amounts of skill, and yes, even nascar drivers who only turn one way. racing is racing. that's good enough for me.

They make left turns at high speed and draft....BFD. Watch some GT racing, Rolex Sports car series, Le Mans. Thats real driving talent and balance.

LOL so many ignorant statements. I'm betting most that have nothing good to say about NASCAR has ever been to a real race. NASCAR is not my all-time favorite racing circuit, but I do respect the skills and talent it takes to keep the team running. Its more than just left turn racing...its a cognitive endurance run at 180+ mph. Its a lot harder than it looks. There's a reason why a lot of open wheel race car drivers made the transition including former F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya. Money.

In terms of money and earning power in American racing series, Nascar is the top of the heap. More so than Indy Car currently and any other American racing series.

I don't know what the average or bottom feeder Nascar driver makes but at the top they pale in comparison to the top guys. In any given year on say Forbes top paid atheletes, an F1 driver can be regularly found in the top 10. Kimi Raikkonen, Fernando Alonso are current examples. Though a bottom team F1 driver may make a couple million a year salary.

Again, it is underestimated the talent both Nascar drivers and teams/crew chiefs need to be competitive let alone winners. Seems like driving at top speed through a never ending high speed corner at the edge of the tires grip while keeping consisten lap times.

A few classmates were having this debate when I did Jim Russell's racing school at Infineon. I'm not a fan of NASCAR at all. I think it's boring and rate it right up there with watching golf, bowling, and paint dry. I prefer road course racing like Formula 1, LeMans, Touring cars, club racing, etc.

I know racing in general, especially at the top end, isn't easy, but NASCAR is extremely boring to me. Yes, I can understand the 180+ "endurance," but compared to a 24 hour Le Mans or the Australian GT? Yes, you go very fast in NASCAR but an oval track...

I toally disagree, yes NASCAR can be boring at times, but when it is very exciting it is the best show on motorsports. Watching on Tv does it no justice, you have to be there to experince it, especially a short track and road courses. Actually NASCAR road course racing is the best ever, I want more road course races, but I love them racing at sears point and watkins glen. I love all types of racing, and even got to attend the US F1 race when it was at Indy, and have been to countless sportscar races etc, so I feel I can be a objective viewer. I totally agree. Go to a race. Your attitude will likely change. I have been to Pocono, Texas (5x), Phoenix, Charlotte, Bristol, Watkins Glen and Dover, and I can honestly say, these were some of the BEST times of my life.
