reminds me of VW talking up weight reduction of Golf, superior technology and all, and when mags tested Golf vs other cars in same test, it weighted exactly the same as better equipped Auris, instead of being 125kg lighter than previous model.

Default Ford Mondeo Available To Order With 14 Powertrain Combinations

If you're after a new Ford Mondeo and you're confused as to which version would suit you best, well, tough luck, because now there's 14 different powertrain combinations you can play with.

Of course this is actually a good thing - having a greater power of choice when it comes to a specific model line-up. Also, production only just started for models equipped with Ford's 1.0 liter EcoBoost unit, the first 1.0 liter engine to make its way into the D segment.

You can obviously go the other way and buy the new 210 PS bi-turbo 2.0 liter TDCi diesel engine or simply stick with the more modest but also more economic 1.5 liter TDCi.

“With the full range of powertrains now rolling off the production line at our state-of-the-art plant in Valencia, Spain, Ford now offers the widest ever choice for Mondeo customers,” said Roelant de Waard, VP of Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford Europe. “Sophisticated technology like our segment-first Inflatable Rear seatbelts helps make Mondeo an even more compelling choice.”

While true, some are understandably even more curious about Ford's new upscale 'Vignale' product and ownership experience, which will debut with the Ford Vignale Mondeo later this year.

If you're in the market for a 2.0 TDCi Mondeo with either 150 PS or 180 PS, you can even have it with Intelligent All-Wheel Drive, for an extra £1,500 over the equivalent front-wheel drive model. As for the more eco conscientious of customers, there's always the Hybrid option - which is available in four-door body style and uses two electric motors and 1.4kWh lithium-ion battery combined with a 2.0 liter petrol engine to drive at up to 85 mph in electric mode.

This drivetrain delivers a total of 187 PS and is priced the same as the 2.0 liter TDCi version at £24,995 in the UK.

Ford has received almost 5,000 orders in the UK alone for the all-new Mondeo since it was launched late last year, so things are already looking up for the VW Passat's main challenger to the European D segment crown.

Default Yet Another Reviewer Says New Ford Mondeo Has Lost Its Handling Edge

Aside from arguably being one of the prettiest (and biggest) cars in its class, the new Ford Mondeo is now aimed more at serene comfort than pinpoint steering sharpness. It’s a slightly more mature package, leaving the sporty duty in the class down to the Mazda6.

CarBuyer’s Mat Watson does not dislike the new Mondeo, but he does seem to find quite a few things wrong with it – the primary concern is the lack of rear headroom; if it’s really as bad as he says it is, then it’s appalling for something aimed at carrying (at least) four adults in comfort and on long journeys.

Oh and due to its newfound heft, the base engines are best avoided. Think of the first two-liter diesel as the base choice, really, for a car of this size.

Default Too Much? Loder1899 Gives New Ford Mondeo 22-Inch Wheels

Bavarian tuning company Loder1899 has released its first selection of alloy wheels for the new Ford Mondeo – aka the Fusion in North America.

Their most extreme offering is the 'Lander 12' series, a 22-inch wheel with gloss black or silver twin spokes and a chrome ring, with prices starting from €3,717 ($4,210 at today's exchange rates).

Just in case you find those wheels over the top, Loder1899 says it also offers wheel and tire packages from 17-inches and up.

In the coming months, the German tuner said it will launch a lowered sports suspension kit together with exhaust and engine performance enhancements for most of the Mondeo's powertrains, which in Europe range from a tiny 1.0 liter EcoBoost three-cylinder unit to the potent 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel and petrols.
