Default Honda Mugen CR-Z

Honda Mugen CR-Z, Hyundai needs "emotion," and a sexy cinquecento

1st Gear: These are the first official images of Honda's "hardcore" hybrid, the Mugen CR-Z, revealed ahead of its scheduled public debut at this summer's Goodwood Festival of Speed. And yup, the new model tuned by Mugen's UK performance division looks pretty much the same as when it was leaked in 2009. Although it's currently a one-off, Honda sources suggest that a limited production run remains a possibility. The Mugen CR-Z uses the regular car's 1.5-litre petrol motor, but it's been supercharged and retuned to produce 50 per cent more power and torque. Mugen claims an overall figure of 197 bhp and 181 lb ft — and those figures will be improved further by a contribution from a re-calibrated version of the CR-Z's IMA electric motor. Honda has yet to announce any official performance figures.

50% more power, 100% more rice. That is horrible but I guess traditional in the Mugen way.

Sorry Honda but get your head out of its 200hp is awesome ***. 200hp was cool in 1992. This is 2011 for crying out loud. You want interesting, make a 300hp CR-Z. Drop the S2000 2.4 liter in it. That is interesting.

Its the same old sorry formula at this point. Do they realize for the pice of this thing I can have a loaded 300hp Mustang/Camaro or maybe even a 400hp+ V-8 model.

197 hp/181 tq isnt bad, especially from a 1.5L motor and considering how small the vehicle acutally is. car will hit low 13-seconds...nothing horrible about that!

its pretty bad, the regular honda civic gets almost similar mpg while delivering more HP and being cheaper, a lot cheaper. Now when you add in the price of the mugen package, I bet you'll be approaching civic SI prices, and the SI will destroy this car.

This car does not get good mpg for a "hybrid" and it does not deliver enough hp. Of course you can say 190 bhp from a 1.50 liters is good, but common really? who still uses a 1.5 liter in a sports car?

I have to agree. I remember when the maxima had 200 hp and it felt like a rocket. I think 200hp is pretty sufficient for a car of this size and class. The 1.3 liter Honda engine I had in my civic in college had like 57 hp, but it used to get 50 mpg also

The Ft86 is only going to have 200hp....I guess that isn't very interesting.

well 200hp with SC means there is plenty of torque... so yeah, that will be good... and of course - CRZ will be like 2800lbs with all those changes, max... so it is still lightweight.

Its great it is coming but sorry it needs more power. 200hp is simply sub-par today unless your car weighs 2000 lbs. It better have an optional engine.

You can buy a 197hp Civic Si, a 300hp Mustang or a 300hp Camaro all within a few hundred dollars of one another.
