Default Spy Shots: Audi RS4 Avant caught on the right track

Spy Shots: Audi RS4 Avant caught on the right track

Despite the rumors of its demise, the next-generation Audi RS4 appears to be on track (literally) based on this mule that our spy shooters have just spied on Germany's Nürburgring. Seen here testing in the all-too-desirable Avant body style, the next RS4's final design will likely be a bit more aggressive, incorporating a much more pronounced front fascia complete with lower air intakes similar to those on the RS5 Coupe. On this mule, we can clearly see the larger wheels (straight from the RS5 – how 'bout that), bigger brakes and slightly wider track.

As for power, the safest bet is to expect that the RS5's high-revving 4.2-liter V8 will carry over to the RS4, producing somewhere around 450 horsepower. Other rumors have suggested that an all-new 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 could be put to use here, but based on all of the scuttlebutt we've heard, the 4.2-liter V8 still looks to be the safest bet. Since the RS4's key competitors will be the BMW M3 and Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG, Audi would probably be wise to use the 450-hp mill in an effort to keep things as competitive as possible. The RS4 will surely be no slouch, and we're bursting with eagerness to see (and drive) the end result.

After the lack luster reviews of the RS5, I don't have very high hopes for this car. Not to mention that it already looks very dated IMO.

As everyday goes by I care less and less about Car Reviews, Ring Times etc

I don’t need the most HP, lowest 0 to 60 and quickest lap around the ring as reasons to make purchase.

Wont be street racing so really don’t care if the Audi is .2 slower 0 to 60

Won’t be racing anyone on the track so I don’t care about ring time

I don’t care that the M3 feels more connected to the road

I don’t care if the AMG has more HP

All the things the professional reviewers and auto forum enthusiasts seem to care about makes it seem like the best buy would be the GT-R and nothing less which means we should see higher sales figures, but we don’t.

Things that do matter

Have to look at my car and say that’s hot!
Should be fun to drive, any RS car should be
Interior should be plush, Audi has that down
I like AWD, Audi has that

I read a lot of RS5 reviews; sure many will say the same about the RS4……

I completely agree, especially when you factor such things as reliability and true cost to own

That said, IMO, Audi doesn't really deliver on design (interior or exterior) and AWD is negligible for my part of the country. Furthermore, chances are that the car will be priced astranomically since the S4 is already in line with the M3 et al. The last RS4 was an $85,000 car

Yeah their talkingthe RS5 is going to be 80k....

But to me the A5\S5\RS5 is one of the best looking coupes on the market and many will say the interior trumps most of those in the same price range.

The high rev v8 does sound great too!

A4/S4 looks fine alongside it's competition even if design dates back to 2009.

The A5/S5 coupes have outstanding style that seems to age well.
