Default Ford Mustang Boss 302 beats Nissan GT-R @ Laguna Seca

The 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 configurator has gone live, and if you're not ready to plunk down the cash (real or imaginary) for one just yet, we have just the video to help convince you that the $40,000+ you need to spend will be worth it. Motor Trend has taken the Boss 302 for a spin around Laguna Seca, and the lap time is very impressive.

What does that mean exactly? Well, owners of the Ford Mustang GT500, BMW M3 and even the Audi R8 should be very nervous if a Boss 302 shows up at the track. Click past the jump to see what we're talking about. Thanks for tipping like a Boss, Brian!

I'd like to see them test a 2012 Nissan GT-R on the same track.

To see is to believe. Live rear axle and outpacing a GT-R in Laguna Seca? I am still a skeptic of this car.

Drop 40k into a GTR and it could probably beat the Boss in reverse

but 40k into a mustang, what a waste of money

Spend enough money on any platform and you can perfect it

live rear axle isnt necessary bad on a smooth track. Racing cars that are designed to race on track, have such stiff anti sway bars that their suspensions are hardly independent... they hardly have any suspension

That being said, there's a lot more to a track time than cars performance alone. Laguna Seca is a hard track that takes a lot of skills and ***** to race on.

This logic makes no sense.

Drop 40k into a GTR and you get... half a GTR.

I wonder how much it would cost to mod the Lexus IS-F V8 like Ford did to the Mustang 5.0 V8 engine.

I'm a big fan of the 65-68 mustang fastbacks, so I definitely like the direction Ford is taking these mustangs.

The '65 Shelby GT350R and the original 69-70 Boss 302s were decent road-race cars.

How often do you hear about a Mustang breaking down after a track day?

Rarely... the Mustang is now in legitimate discussions with track cars... that FACT alone shows just how far Ford has brought it...

Beats GTR? Shoot, look at all the other great cars it beat too. Vette Z06, AMG Mercedes, BMW M3. That's legit!
