I don't think gas has been $1.60 since 2003.

Yes, it hit about $1.99 around here in the high cost parts of northern CA, I remember that.

I want to say it hit high 1.40's around here for a couple days down near Detroit, then we see 1.60-1.80 for a while.

Wow, talk about lows (and highs too).

I remember the shortage of economy cars and SUV depreciation rates during the price spike.

Me too.

And now look at how expensive SUV’s are now used and new.

America loves fad’s both good and bad, and most of this is simply manipulation, speculation and pure panic.

Agreed, the older you get the more obvious/repetitive/predictable/cyclical America's buying behavior (as mostly followers) becomes.

But seriously, who here would actually stop driving at $8 a gallon? The gas hikes to $4 a gallon for *regular* didn't stop me from going to work, shopping, etc.

Hopefully in a few years when electric cars pick up production (ie Nissan Leaf, Volt, and the other fuel efficient cars become common...) demand will lower a bit and so would the price.

Where I am gas is about $4.15-$4.20 for Regular.

Its not 110% demand driving the price though, the market will bring in those elec cars, smaller cars etc and gas prices will still be high because of outside forces. I am still digging for a chart but when gas crashed under $2, I wonder if demand dropped anywhere near that %

Yes, the price-drop from the summer ($4.00-5.00) to the late-fall of 2008 ($2.00 OR LESS) was remarkable. I dont want to get too far off the thread-topic here, but that huge drop, in a couple of months, right before a major election, was suspicious. Though I myself am not convinced that this was the motive, that huge drop, just before the elections, does suggest, at least to an extent, that the price may have been manipulated to try and influence the elections. If not, a drop like that would be quite a coincidence.

Interesting observations, and "drill baby drill" blah, blah, blah.

More on-topic, anybody seeing any gas for $3.01 this week (in the US)?

Buying gas PDQ! ...wish I didn't just start working a job that requires I drive all over to see clients. I was excited about getting a new Legacy GT, but a Prius seems more relevant at this point. Ugh.

higher gas prices make me carpool more and work from home more....at $8 a gallon you'd be just throwing money away not to at least TRY.

I'm carpooling every day now with my wife....cuts our gas by more than half.
