Report: 2012 Cadillac SRX to get 3.6L V6
General Motors may have pulled the plug on the Cadillac SRX Turbo, but fear not, we will not be stuck with the anemic 3.0-liter V6 as the Caddy's sole powerplant. A report from GM Inside News states that the 2012 SRX will use the automaker's well-received 3.6-liter V6 with direct injection – the unit currently found in the CTS sedan.
Not only is the 3.6-liter V6 more powerful than the outgoing 2.8-liter turbocharged six, it will likely be tweaked to improve overall fuel efficiency when it makes its way under the SRX's hood. Known internally as "LFX," this engine currently produces 304 horsepower in the CTS, though rumors have suggested that power will be increased for use in the larger crossover. GM Inside News also reports that the SRX will get a few other tweaks for the 2012 model year, including a heated steering wheel.

Now that a several competitors have 300 hp in their CUV's, I wonder if Lexus will offer the DI 3.5 in the RX?
Not having it, obviously hasn't hurt sales any though.

Good point. Mercedes needs to do same with ML350. Many of these "mid-sized SUVs" are nearly 5000 pounds wet (and are very close in weight to similar sized body-on-frame SUVs) and are at price points where this kind of power is expected. I'm confident Toy/Lex is not standing still in this area of product development.

^I'd wager that they are. The RX has been out for almost two years and Lexus doesn't have any problem selling every one that rolls off the line. The only DI V6's that they have are vertically mounted in RWD cars so they don't even have such a powerplant that they could but into the RX/ES chassis right now. If the new Camry gets a reworked DI V6 then I might expect it in the RX within a year or two but for now they just don't have any options for FWD + DI.
...just another reason why the next RX should be based on the IS/GS chassis

^ And the main motivation for DI will be fuel economy, versus performance. 1 or 2 years (whatever the speculation is) on wait is plenty soon, but the development has to start far sooner than the release to production.
The Caddy SRX certainly started with weaker engine so a need for change was more urgent, even if the SRX sells very well as-is.

I had two Caddies with this engine and it performed well. But, the oil needs to be checked at least every other fill-up. My cars usually used at least 1 qt. of oil between changes and other owners reported higher oil use rates. Low oil levels have also been linked to some timing change failures. Oil use may also be linked to catalytic converter failures. On the Caddy forum, I joked that they were really 2-cycle engines.
