Ford Excursion lives! Get your 2011 model right here

The Ford Excursion lives, though not through any fault of Ford. The clever craftsmen at Custom Autos by Tim can turn any 2010 or 2011 Ford F-250 or F-350 into what looks to be a factory-perfect interpretation of what the Excursion would look like if it hadn't been axed in 2005. Buyers can get their behemoths with either four or six doors and it usually takes Tim's crew around six weeks to turn a vehicle from a pickup to an SUV. In that time, the shop finds a 2005 Excursion from the southwest, drags it to their shop in Guthrie, Oklahoma and surgically removes the rear-end of the vehicle.

From there, the aft is grafted onto the new truck and a completely new interior is installed. The whole shebang will cost you $23,000 on top of the purchase price of your standard F-250 or F-350. Given that the F-250 starts at $29,480 without destination, chances are you're looking at a price tag of over $53,000 by the time all is said and done. We think we'd just as soon stick with a Chevrolet Suburban were it our chips on the table.

Well, who would want one? The jury's out, of course, on how this aftermarket version will drive, but the factory-version Excursion I test-drove a number of years ago (I didn't formally write it up) was arguably the worst-handling vehicle I've ever driven, short of heavy-duty trucks. The suspension was atrocious.....the vehicle was simply too heavy (over 7000 lb.) for the chassis. It bumped and crashed on small bumps and heaved like an ocean liner on large ones. Coming to a stop, at low speeds, you could actually watch the horizon and the hood-line in front of you bob up and down like a toy Slinky-Spring.

Like it or not, IMO, the Chevy Suburban/GMC Yukon XL has far better overall engineering, despite their sometimes spongy, ineffective brakes.

I would hope so. See my post #2, just above.....the suspension/chassis on the original factory-version was a joke.

Not popular, but that's why it's a custom version only.

A properly equipped Suburban is a better choice IMO.

If you're looking for a Heavy Duty diesel powered SUV for towing, this is your only option.

The long-wheelbase Expedition (similiar in size to the Suburban) would probably make a better platform for a Lincoln version than the F250/350/Excursion. For one thing, it is likely to drive much better.

Escalade ESV > 2011 Excursion..... even though I have always been a fan of the excursion, still think its poitnless unless u have a 35ft+ boat or work for wildlife

The thread title deals with a custom-built Excursion, by an aftermarket company, from an F-250/350 frame/chassis, not a factory Excursion. Yes, the factory-built model was canned several years ago, mostly from political correctness and the environmentalists.
