Default 751k mile GMC Duramax diesel truck

http://www.thedieselpage.com/duramax/750kduramaxc.htm

Can you imagine driving 400 miles a day for 5 years straight? I couldnt. This GMC is in amazing condition for having 751k miles. I'm actually more interested in how much this guy spent on gas

bahahaha, epic fail bud. And the answer to diesel would likely be zero as well. Because anyone driving that much, does it for a job, and likely has either a company credit card or gets paid per-diem including fuel/maintenance costs.

But lets do some math...the 2005 Sierra/Silverado HD longbed had a 38 gallon tank.

38 gallons*15 mpg avg= 570mi/tank. Call it 500.
751,000/500=1502 tanks of diesel.
38 gallons @ $2.75/gal (avg)=$104.50/tank of diesel. Call it $120 for avg.
1502*120=
$180,240 (approx) JUST IN DIESEL.

Margin of error is going to be huge...but for the sake of argument say +/-$20,000. Haha

751K miles / 15 miles/gal = 50,667 gal x $2.75/gal = $139,334.

I suspect he averaged less than 15 MPG as many of those miles were towing RVs.

I wonder how those RV hotshots are paid? By the mile?

I bet the dealer kept it to display on the showroom floor.
It's a good testament to how well those trucks are built and can last.

My first job out of college was a Field Engineer with Halliburton, in NE Ohio, in 1981. A few months after starting, I was issued a company car, with a "magic" fuel card that worked in every gas station in the US. We also had our own fuel island at our camp. It was common for me to drive 300 miles a day, chasing rigs and entertaining customers. Sometimes I would not come home for 2-3 days, I literally lived out of my car. We would get a new car after 100K miles, because they were beat to death by then. Most of them were Chevy Caprices with cop add-ons (not the motor, unfortunately), but later they started issuing us Broncos. If we got more than 2 years out of a car, it would negatively affect our performance review, as they assumed we weren't driving enough.

One field supervisor I worked with got a new car every year, he would easily crank up 120K in a year.

joking aside, it seems like our economy is built on an incredible waste of fuel

Isuzu engineering, they make some of the best diesel engines in the world . They collaborated with GM on the Duramax design.

GM does have some very durable trucks, specifically the ones with bulletproof Duramax engines and Allison transmissions.
