2012 BMW 1 Series M Coupe: 445 Horsepower?
By Mike Magrath | November 23, 2010

Those sneaky fellows over at 1Addicts are at it again. This time they've snagged screen shots of a BWM product listing showing not only that a 300-horsepower BMW 135is is on the horizon-- no real shock there as they've churned out a 335is and Z4 Sdrive 35is.

The surprise here is that the 1 Series M Coupe -- codenamed PYRAT -- will have two engine options: a 335 horsepower mill for Europe and a 445-horsepower (!) unit for the US.

Wait...what? 445? We know full well that you can chip a 1 Series (or any of the N5x motors to 400 horsepower without much drama, but from the factory? What say you, loyal readers? Is the 2012 BMW 1 Series M Coupe really going to hit 445 horsepower, or is the PYRAT code likely just the M division and that this is a teaser for the next-gen BMW M3?

Seems a bit excessive if true. I like my wheels to be with the body of the car, not ahead of them.

If the chassis can handle it, why not?

It's such a niche product that it'll only be sold for bragging rights...

those things are already fast, but to give it 445 right off the bat? as PhilpMSPT said, if the chassis can handle that load, then so be it. seems kinda high for such an already zippy car...
