So I saw that new ad for the Equus, and I think it was meaningless. Most of the ad is spent showcasing the iPad, with very little time or words spent on showcasing the Equus.
Apple must be really happy with Hyundai, since they are giving the iPad free advertising .
IMHO, I think this is a clear example of Hyundai's arrogance, impatience, and obsession with mimicking other companies starting to backfire on them. If I wasn't a car guy, I would literally think I was watching an iPad commercial, not a car commercial.

I don't want an Equus as of right now, actually I am not in the market for any car, my favorite is still my LS430 and SC430, and they are in mint condition that will last many more years.
Depends on how my life goes. If It doesn't go so well, I'll drive an Equus. I think some day if I can't afford to daily drive a Lexus LS anymore, I would drive an Equus. I'll drive an Equus over a ES or GS, I tell you that.....I like space.
But if my life goes well, it would either be a Phantom, Ghost or Mulsanne
This is looking good!

I managed to check out the new Equus in person at the Detroit Auto Show on Sunday. For what it's worth, I was very, very impressed by this effort from Hyundai. I immediately went to the LS460L after checking it out and made my comparisons. The Equus won't steal sales away from the LS. Not by a long shot. Where it matters most the Hyundai uses very good quality materials, but in areas not usually noticed day to day, it manages to get away with cheaper materials. Although thats what you appreciate in the LS - the higher level of quality in ALL areas.
Switchgear felt solid for the most part, but didn't have the same solidity and heft (if that makes sense) as those from Lexus, BMW, or Mercedes. The doors felt solid though and closed with a nice thunk. I didn't really care much for the rear end, but the side view and front end were pretty well done. They need to figure out that front grille though, the front camera looks ridiculous in the middle of that vertical chrome bar.
When I was checking it out I asked a lot of others in and around checking out the car what they thought. Those that were knowledgeable mentioned they would have trouble stomaching $60k for one brand new, when a slightly used LS460 would go for as much.
A lot of mentions about lack of competition from Acura, Infiniti and the like.

Seems to reaffirm opinions of some CL members that Hyundai will not really affect sales that much of the class leaders (LS, 7, S), but will likely get a few conquest sales from lower brands like Acura and Infiniti.
