The information on the ES indicates the optional wood/leather steering wheel is either walnut or maple depending on the rest of the interior wood.

I never saw any optional wheel other than the WU wood wheel and shifter option I had when I bought my ES.
In any case,Lexus has a pic of the RX and it doesn't have that wheel.
Why isn't that quality wheel on the LS?

I just re-read the info on the web site. It is kind of vague so now I'm confused.
Exact same? I don't know, but I can tell you that there are definitely finger grooves / cuts there to aid in gripping the wheel.

I have a bunch of cuts too but those cuts are to fasten the veneer on the wheel.
The steering wheel pictured being made doesn't have any cuts and that wheel isn't even on the flagship LS.
