I'm pretty certain that is not a classic Mercedes 190SL but some funky replica. The modern interior seems to indicate that. Plus, the proportions seem all wrong. This car looks fat while a real 190SL is sleek and thin.

I don't think anyone would "butcher" a classic car by equipping it with a modern, more powerful motor and interior.

I'm not sure, maybe someone who saw it can comment, but it certainly could be a modern update of a classic. Restore-mods are quite popular at the moment. The best of todays mechanical and technological advancements in a classic body. The interior just looks like they added a modern center console and the exterior looks right, other than the huge wheels that throw it off.

I've been discussing a project like this with my mechanic, father in law. LS7 into a '63 Vette or '69 Camaro SS or '70 Chevelle SS with all the modern underpinnings.

It definitely looks like a 190SL, but the proportions have been altered, I agree. Notice how much further the front clip is on the cream (new) one as opposed to being even or almost behind the headlights in the silver one. It's still beautiful. I'd rock that like there is no tomorrow. Absolutely stunning. Thanks for sharing!

I don't consider that butchering a classic. That car is very nicely appointed and looks like it was done with a lot of care. True craftsmanship on display there.

Nice, not feeling the 20" take on the classic rims though, should of kept the rim in their original size.

May I suggest seat belts and airbags with that V12? Anyone? lol

Very good point. A smart one too.

Having a modern blower V12 that provides power for some compact car body/chasis that was designed for the 1961 crash standard is simply excessive.

I still believe it's some sort of replica. I just can't imagine anyone "ruining" a 190SL. Sure, it's in the shadows compared to its 300SL Gullwing and Roadster stablemates but it is still a charming little car that really doesn't need a modified V12 engine under the hood. This is a mid-1950s car and all the power in the world won't make it a competent performer. The body and framework can only take a certain amount of stress.

Also, I don't think the Mercedes V12 engine will fit into the engine bay of a 190SL. The 190SL had a 105-horsepower inline-4 motor that, despite it's small size, took up most of the engine bay. There would need to be some serious modifications done to a genuine 190SL in order to shoehorn such a massive engine into its engine compartment - and the cooling system, battery, etc.

All this leads me to believe that this is a replica.

Ah. So it's a current SL that's been modified to look like a 190SL.

At least I was close.
