The shapes are there, but it's distinctive.

It's a close call, but I'd give the X3's interior a better hand with more curvaceousness and a cleaner center stack with less buttons...

I agree. The BMW dash looks cleaner and more modern. The Audi's has a lip or hood that looks tacked on, and the silver plastic trim everywhere is not elegant. But Audi did have this design first on the A6, then on the Q7. The BMW 3-series, when equipped with a nav, has a high central area on the dash, which looks nothing like the Audi dashes. Audi had it first, and this look debuted back in 2005. At the time, it was heralded as pretty much an interior benchmark. But it's time for some updating, which is coming in a few months for the A6.

if that interior was in ANY GM or Ford vehicle, everyone would completely hate it.

BMW corrected the 2 biggest flaws w/ the original X3 - its overly harsh ride and chinzy interior.

I'm sure it'll be one of the better sellers for BMW, but frankly, it looks worse (esp. those headlights) than the 1st gen X3 and that already was no looker.
