Post Porsche 911 Speedster ($204,000)

Wow, another 911

http://www.evo.co.uk/news/evonews/25...speedster.html

From EVO:

Last week the 911 GTS, this week the 911 Speedster. Anyone would think Porsche was having difficulty flogging 911s at the moment, so is coming up with ever more inventive ways of shifting metal.

Just 356 examples of the Speedster are being made available worldwide – as if you needed another clue to point you to the fact this car aims to recreate the spirit of the original 1953 356 Speedster.

Porsche is heavily into plundering the back catalogue at the moment: this year we’ve already had the Boxster Spyder reliving the 550 Spyder and the 911 Sport Classic doing a ducktail impersonation of a 1973 Carrera RS (on video here).

The 911 Speedster uses the same 408bhp engine as the Sport Classic – and come to think of it, the 911 GTS. It’s also rear-wheel drive, has the PDK gearbox as standard and uses the 44mm wider Carrera 4 body.

In Porsche’s own words it’s been ‘designed and conceived by the Porsche Exclusive department in Stuttgart’, to help celebrate that arms 25th anniversary next year. Before you go thinking this is a good thing, Porsche Exclusive does all the personalisation stuff, not the RS stuff.

Two seat only, it has a 60mm lower windscreen and the iconic double bubble humps at the back. Unique Pure Blue paint is standard, but you can have yours Carrera White for no extra charge.

Like the £137,900 Sport Classic, the Speedster will wear an equally hefty price tag when it goes on sale next January at a cost of £144,100.

Not bad, but 911 verts are always a bit odd IMO. Speedster is a nice twist.

£144,100! Something like a 60% over even a fully optioned C2GTS.

No thanks, the back is so ugly, the 1st pic looks like someone tacked Panamera's *** onto the 911.

The 356 is a classic, the 911 is a different evolution branch from the 356, I just don't think the 911 speedster makes sense look wise lol, its like a having a M version of a SUV like X5... oh wait...

Pana *** or 911 Cab ***, both are a bit large.

Today I saw a new Pana on 22's, which distracted me from seeing the big ***.

To many 911 variations. Some IMO are completely cheezy like this one.

Yawn ... Overpriced just like the Sport Classic version, Porsche is really running out of design and marketing ideas. They're kind of like GM in a way, ten different versions of the standard ones. Most people can't even tell the difference between a Carrera and 911 Turbo.

Default Paris 2010: 2011 Porsche 911 Speedster sings a blue note

Paris 2010: 2011 Porsche 911 Speedster sings a blue note

Another day, another new iteration of the Porsche 911. Not that we're complaining. This time around we got to feast our lucky eyes on the limited-edition 2011 Porsche 911 Speedster while it makes its world debut at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.

The 911 Speedster is designed to pay homage to the original Porsche 356. Combine the French Racing Blue paint job, 408 horsepower flat-six engine and a low run of 356 models, and we expect the 911 Speedster to be sold out by the time you are done looking through the high-res image gallery below

I'm not that moved.

I mean it's great, but it isn't spectacular.
