After closer scrutiny I actually like the Saab 9-5
It took me a minute but I actually like how this car looks. Going by the individual styling cues I really shouldn't like this car but somehow it all comes together and makes the car both smooth and assertive at the same time. I've never been warm to Saab's styling in the past because it somehow seemed archaic and quirky and never seemed quite modern enough. This new 9-5 at least does that. The interior, though, borders on bland and adheres a bit too closely to Saab's traditional attitudes towards cockpit design but the exterior is somehow cool to me.

Unlike the 9-3, with its Consumer Reports history of below-average reliability, past 9-5 models have been somewhat more reliable.
I'll withhold more comment until I see it, but, right off-hand, I agree....I'm not sure it's going to be worth 50K.

I also like the looks inside and out. However the price and the fact the brand will likely not be around soon isn't exactly selling points.
To its credit it can't be confused with any other sedan and does it in a graceful way without resorting to cliches, trends and outright ugliness.
With base wheels its still not that bad

Yes....the Spyker deal was finalized several months ago.

We will also see a new 9-3, an all-new 9-4 coming up, and maybe a 9-1:

In addition to the planned release of the Saab 9-5 flagship sedan this summer and the 9-4x crossover early next year, Spyker said it intended to develop a new 9-3 model and possibly a 9-1 to slot at the bottom of the product line.

Give it at least a year or two to address any (possible) teething problems. Though the last 9-5 (and, of course, the Subaru-built 9-2X) were fairly reliable, Saab is not known for being able to bring out reliable models in their first-year.
