Default Quick question regarding Smart Key

I know that for the first few minutes if you leave the smart key inside the car it will not lock. However, after, say 15+ minutes, will the car lock if the key is inside of it?

Trying to decide if the key is locked inside the car, or if it has been lost

You can't lock the key inside the car UNLESS you press the lock button on the other fob. If you leave the key in the car, and press the button on the door handle, the car will not lock.

Only if the key is in the ignition. I have left mine on the seat and had to break in my own car. Damn.

According to Lexus, the car will lock after a prolonged amount of time as a security feature.

As per Lexus, the only way for the car to lock itself is if you unlock the car, but don't open any door. After a period of time, (about 30 seconds) the car will re-lock itself.
Other than that, there is no way it will ever lock itself.

Tex, I think your comment only refers to the smart access system, which allows the car to sense the key in the car. With the regular smart key (as in not push button start), there is no way for the car to know that the key is in the car, unless it is in the ignition.

If it is placed on the seat, you can still lock the car via the lock button on the door or by the other key fob. and no, the car will not lock itself ever on its own accord unless what is stated above (unlocked the car but not opening any doors)

I only was aware of one type of SmartKey. I didn't realize there were Smart Keys and *Smarter* Keys. I'm talking about the Smarter Key with push button start.
